When buying a washer/dryer, I opted for the cheapest possible set and have limited wash options. I have a permanent press option with varying levels of "intensity" (?) ( heavy, medium, light) and a cotton cycle with the same intensity levels- both only have a wash, spin, rinse, spin. There's also a gentle cycle. That in itself is no biggie- just run an extra wash... But I also have an issue with my hot water- it shakes my pipes so hard that I'm afraid they'll break so I don't use the hot water... at all.
Should I add an extra wash cycle to compensate? How important is a hot water cycle, anyway?
Re: Washing Question re: cold water
TBH, for me hot water is important.
I tried to do cold to save some energy and my diapers never seemed to come that clean/left with stains...so back to hot I went. It's worth it to me.
Our water isn't even all that hot. 120 is what our heater is set to but it's less by the time it gets to our machine I'm sure.
Unless you have your hot water heater set at 212 degrees, it will not sanitize your laundry. That's why we buy soap. I can see it breaking up solids much faster and stain prevention.
