Is there any way to know?/How common are false pos results?

Just hoping to find out if there's any way to really know if I experienced a chemical pregnancy/very early MC or if my test was defective. See my sig below & also my ticker links to my chart. I should note though that in Jan I discovered that the OPK tests I was using were expired.  But that almost doesn't matter because based on my BBT I ovulated day 11 which was 3 days earlier than I had the previous couple months. So I think I started testing a little late. My cycle is between 27-29 days regularly. Jan was the longest luteal phase I had.  

 I got the BFP and the Thu night after I started cramping and spotting. Wasn't too worried until middle of the night woke up with bleeding like AF.  Dr had me come in that morning for a blood test and when I got home was still bleeding and POAS again and that time was BFN. Was so heartbroken - Dr on Mon told me the levels of HCG from blood test also showed that I was not pregnant.  So I don't know if that means it was just a defective test or if I had a super early miscarriage. And I'm all freaked out now that I'm on day 13 and my OPK has still been neg. I am only taking it 1x per day with FMU - could I have missed the surge??  Crossing my fingers that it will be + in the morning but feeling really anxious about it all

Maybe by only testing once your have missed your surge.  Good  Luck!!!

Well no surge yet but I'm crossing my fingers for later today or this morning - it's a CBE digital test & when I ejected it this time there is a faint 2nd line there now where there was no 2nd line before.  Still don't know though if last month was an early mc or just a defective test.

False positives in HPTs are rare.  Especially since it was combined with longer than usual luteal phase, I'm guessing you had a c/p.  Unfortunately at this point it's impossible to know for sure.

Thank you so much for the feedback.  Happy to say I did get pos OPK just now - lots of BD plus once more tomorrow then the 2WW.  Thanks for any additional opinions and feedback!

Sounds like a CP or early m/c. for an HPT to show + there has to be hcg in your system which is only created by a placenta. a doc will only call a blood test + if it's over 25 I think, and some tests say they can sense 25 but are really much more sensistive(I have a friend that got a + one a wondfo when her bloodwork was at 3!)
