Cloth Diapering

Washer Stink Help, please!

I have a top loader, HE washer.  It smells really bad lately...I'm assuming the cloth diapers have something to do with it. We have a diaper sprayer, so no poop ever goes directly in the washing machine. I have Tide "washing machine cleaner" but it only makes it smell good until the next time I use it. I remember reading somewhere on here that vinegar helps with the smell? If so, how much? Do I just poor it in the washer, or put it in the slot where the detergent goes? Also, is it okay to do with an HE machine? TIA, I really appreciate the feedback.

Re: Washer Stink Help, please!

  • Do you have a "clean washer" setting?  Our HE top loader does and I just set it on that every so often with just straight up bleach in the bleach slot and let it clean itself.

I don't think ours has that setting. Do you think I could do the bleach in the slot with hot water?

  • I use Affresh once a month in my HE machine - we've only been CDing for one month but it's smelling as clean as it always has!

  • what kind of washer do you have?  We have the whirlpool cabrio and on the clean washer setting it completely fills up the washer to clean it so that would be my only worry about just trying to do a reg wash with bleach because the sensors would sense that the washer is empty and not fill it up very much with water.
