  • You definitely need to talk to your doctor. Tell them the stress management techniques aren't working and that you are legitimately worried that you are going to do something stupid unless you get more help.

I agree it is better to be safe than sorry.

  • Definitely get some help. It doesn't make you a bad mom for seeking help, it makes you a GOOD one. You don't have to deal with this alone. It can be really hard when family and friends can't relate to what you're going through, but you know when things get really bad. Good luck!

  • So when i was a teenager I was diagnosed as bipolar. I honestly think it was a misdiagnosis as I just an out of control teenager that had a sleeping problem. Regardless though I learned alot about bipolar disorder.

My advice to you is not to wait. Call your doctor and make a big deal out of it. There are meds they can put you on that will have more benefit than risk compared to what could happen if things escalate. If they wont help you at least have them refer you to a psychiatrist that will be able to help you. Ive tend to notice doctors with less experience in the exact situation tend to over look things that should not be overlooked.

  •       Agreed. Go talk to your doctor. Tell them the stress reduction techniques aren't working. And ask what your other options are. I've never been diagnosed bipolar, but I have had severe depression and anxiety. I have been off my anti-depressants since a month before getting pg. When I was diagnosed with GD my anxiety went through the roof. I ended up freaking out, crying to my nurse practitioner at the OB office. Anyways, she prescribed me ativan 0.5mg as needed for anxiety. I've only taken it once but I feel better just knowing I have it.. just in case things get rough again. I do not like medications (especially while pg) but you gotta do what you gotta do. My doctor said it was safer to take the ativan than risk stressing myself into preterm labor.
My doctor also advised starting my anti-depressants back up. Now that I'm in the 3rd trimester more medications are considered safe. I'm still thinking about that. You also need to talk about what you can do to get your condition better controlled now. Because I'm sure after birth, all the hormones will be messing with your emotions (post-partum depression, ect.)
I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you feel better real soon. Speak up for yourself and your baby, and get some help.

  • Definitely go see your doctor and explain that the stress management techniques aren't working.  Don't wait until your next scheduled appointment.  If you don't get a satisfactory response, go to another dr. I agree with PP who said that it makes you a good mom to recognize that you need help and be proactive about getting it.  Good for you!

  • call your doctor right away and don't feel bad about asking for help, try some different relaxation methods while your waiting. You never know what might work try baking, walking, have some chocolate may not help but you never know. I hope your doctor can give your something to help
