Okay so we went down to Seattle for our weekly EPIC MFM appt. and Baby B failed the NST. Apparently his baseline heart rate went down drastically for awhile and then went back up. They also weren't happy with my constant contractions. I am on time released Nifedipine (Procardia) so they changed it to 10mg capsules that I take 1 or 2 of every 4-6 hours (the time release did not give me headaches, this stuff does!!!). Also they prescribed me with Hydroxyzine to help with the overnight contractions and it is supposed to help me sleep. I took one last night and then proceeded to worry about the side effects all night so I don't think that I will continue taking it.
Anyways, failed NST landed us in L&D for 2 extra hours of monitoring which turned in to 3 extra hours because Baby B likes to be really difficult to catch on the machine. All the while I was STARVING because we had been at the doctors office since 11am and it was 5pm when we got to the hospital. Now I am at home in bed. YAY! Looks like this is where we will be for the majority of my next month. I am glad the outcome of it all was good and I hope that they pass next time!!
Now I want to hear about your failed NSTs!
Re: Failed NST rant
im sorry you went through all that. glad everything turned out okay though.
did you get some good food when you got home at least?
i go for my first NST scan next week (will be 32 weeks).
Those appts are so frustrating but I'm glad everything turned out fine.
I didn't fail an NST but when I went for a cervix check at 26w, my MFM discovered that it had shorted a bit. They wanted me to be checked by my regular OB in L&D. In L&D, you aren't allowed anything to eat or drink in case they have to do an emergency c/s.
By the time I got settled in there, it had been 4 hours since I'd had anything, and I was getting dehyrdrated. After another hour, I started to contract due to dehydration. I tried to explain why I was contracting and that I just needed something to drink. They wouldn't listen and thought I needed more monitoring, so it landed me an overnight stay in the high-risk maternity ward. Of course, when they admitted me, they gave me liquid and my contractions stopped. I only had one more contraction my entire pregnancy.
They said they'd have to get my dr's permission to give me crackers and juice. Unfortunately, my dr got tied up for a long time with two emergency c/s, so they couldn't reach her to ask.
After 22 cycles and tube removal our IVF miracle has arrived! Detailed IF and IVF info in bio.
This is the case at our hospital too. They have to put an order in for food and water. They couldn't even bring me a glass of water until the order was put in at 7pm!!! I cheated and went to the restroom and drank from the sink. Being dehydrated was NOT going to help anything!
