....I'm getting a new office at work, and I need to choose between carpet or tile. I work as a social worker in a long term care facility, and my office will be on the nursing unit, if that makes a difference.

Re: VERY important question. Ha. (NBR)
I'd say tile. It looks nicer and more professional for an office and since it's on the nursing unit you'd be able to sanitize it easier than carpet which tends to hide & hang on to dirt & grime.
And....Congrats on the new office!

The dirt/grime issue is a tough one! The tile I have in my *current* office has those lovely dust bunnies in the corner. I like the idea of carpet for the noise/look. I'm thinking that if we go with carpet, maybe getting a cheap area rug to go on top of the carpet for the high traffic areas that can be thrown in the 500 degree washers/dryers.
Thanks ladies for the input! I have the song, "Movin' on up" in my head right now.... It's exciting to be getting a new (bigger) office, with a REAL desk! (It's the small things in life, right?)
Tile, but with area rugs for coziness and noise dampening qualities.
Our floors have industrial carpet (like you'd find in a school) and even in our cubicles people put down smaller area rugs to make it seem cozier.
Congratulations on the new office! I'm way jealous.

Do you see pts in your office? I was a speech therapist in a LTC facility a couple years back and had two pts pee on my floor and one vomit everywhere. Carpet would not have been a good idea for me.
So, I guess what I'm saying is I'd go with tile
Congrats on the new office!
I mostly see families in my office and pts in their rooms, some pts do stop by for various reasons on their own accord. I've been here 2 years and haven't had bodily fluids spilled in my office, YET. But I get where you are coming from!! If I did direct care, there wouldn't be a question...it'd be tile all the way! (If I were a Speech PT, I'd definetely ask for a plexi-glass shield for my desk, too LOL)

I didn't read responses so I'm sorry if this is redundant.
I would do tiles and them get an area rug for your desk area. I've seen this in a lot of professional offices and I think it looks so nice. Makes things cozier kwim?
