Weaning and depression

A poster linked to this blog post in a discussion about weaning on another online group I belong to.  I found it really interesting.  The social worker who runs a PPD support group said that she's definitely seen that association, but that it doesn't get a lot of attention.

Re: Weaning and depression

  • That is really very interesting. C weaned herself sloooowwwlly (she started dropping sessions around 9-10? months maybe and finally weaned at 13 months), and I honestly felt better and "more myself" with every dropped session. When she finally weaned completely I felt so good! I wonder if it is more related to faster weaning (like the blog post)? It makes total sense that a sudden shift in hormones (like from pregnancy to post-partum or from lactation to weaning) could trigger an emotion-based illness (depression, anxiety, etc). I am intrigued! Thanks for sharing!
