Late Term and Child Loss

So frustrated with Doctor

Ugh.  I have been waiting very patiently for the pathology reports from the placenta on twin 1.  When I went in for my 6 week PP appt in December, they told me to call after the first of the year.  I called mid January after gathering up the energy to do so.  I missed the call.  The dr said he would call back and I never heard from him again.  I finally called again last week.  A nurse called back and said the doctor would call me Tuesday (today).  He called, I ran out of a meeting I was leading to take the call.  He told me the results said that the twins were fraternal (duh), twin 1 (the one that passed) had multiple abnormalities (again, duh) and that twin 2 was male.  Seriously?  This is what I have been so worked up about--nothing?  No new info?  I asked him about that and explained that I was told they were doing genetic testing and would have more info.  He then told me that he that wasn't his area and he would see if he could find someone to explain it to me at a later date.  DD's loss has been hitting me extra hard the past week or so and I was really hoping to get some answers.

  • It sounds like you might have to call their office & raise hell. You shouldn't have to contact them- what, like 4 times? Why wouldn't they have the results by now? I recommend requesting a copy of your medical records from the insurance dept. You might have to pay for copies or something but they are YOUR medical records and you are entitled to them.

  • Thanks.  I feel better now that I got that out.  I did try to request my medical records and they said that the doctor didn't sign off on them...the doctor had no idea what I was talking about.  I called my MFM's office next door to see if they have any insight.  It takes so much energy to do all this.

  • This happened to me...it took forever to get the pathology/autopsy reports on Ella.  My OB was even making calls for me.  He said he would be very angry if something from that came back and could've saved Thia.  It didn't, but I still ended up getting Thia's autopsy report first.  And she lived for 3 weeks.  It didnt/still doesnt make sense.  I think it took about 3 months to get Thia's and another 2 weeks after that to get Ella's.  That's a long time to live in limbo, wondering what happened.  And then to not get any concrete answers was even harder.  You always wonder what happened?

  • I'm so sorry you're getting the runaround.  I hope they get their act together soon and that you're able to see someone who is able to help give you some answers.

  • I hope you get some answers soon~ I would also ask for a referral to a genetic counselor as soon as your test results are in, so she/he can give you more detailed info if needed.  I also agree about calling and raising hell! More than 6 weeks is long enough! Many (((HUGS))) I hope the week is more gentle on you.
