A diaper WTF...

We've been using Huggies Overnights since the girl was like 6 months old and now they're leaking every.single.night.

She's in the correct size (size 5) but she's a heavy wetter.

I need some recommendations. This is getting messy and I feel so bad for her. This morning she was soaking wet from chest down to her calves and was just laying in it.

Do I need a new brand? Do I need an insert? I think I remember someone saying Huggies has changed their diapers or something. Help!

Re: A diaper WTF...

  • Is the diaper totally full, or do you think the wetting is sometimes caused by leaking? Because if the latter, you definitely need a different brand or size. If the former, there might be diaper out there for you, or maybe you could use an insert.

I don't have any specific recommendations because DS does fine in his diapers, which are "nurtured by nature" size 4. Target has also served us well. In both cases, we almost never have an overnight problem, unless there's a big poop first, followed by pee (so the poop sort of blocks off the absorbent diaper part). And even then there is rarely a problem. After a lot of wetting, for us the diaper just gets super big but he almost never wets himself out of it.

But, I would maybe just try another brand anyway. Try googling around to see which ones are the best recommended for overnight. I think people have mentioned in the past the idea of using a cloth diaper, perhaps counterintuitively. It wouldn't be that much hassle to switch to cloth for once a day.

My final recommendation is to consider her drinking schedule leading up to bed. If she drinks a lot maybe some of that liquid could be moved to earlier in the day.

  • J is in Pampers Baby Dry size 3 and we LOVE them! We have always used them and never have we had a problem. The only problems we ever had were if he had on Luvs or Huggies because someone bought the wrong size.

  • We use target size 3 during the day, and size 4 pampers overnights for bed time. He was leaking out of the regular diapers overnight, and we went with the bigger size for a little extra absorbency material... It's been working great for us for a while now :) GL!

  • Maybe try the next size up in the Huggies overnights?  All the posts I've read about overnight diapers said to go one size up from the regular diaper.

DS wears Target Up & Up Size 3s during the day and Pampers Extra Protection Size 4s at night. He's never leaked out of the overnights in one size up.  If going up one size in Huggies doesn't work, give Pampers a shot.

  • She def is peeing right out of them. Can't go up a size-she's already in size 5 for a short time now and 6's will be huge.

She def does drink a lot at dinner but I don't want to keep her from drinking. She gets hard poops if she doesn't drink enough. I am open to cloth for nighttime. Might have to try it.

  • We loved Huggies Overnights until they changed them too. Bad, bad Winnie the Pooh - haha! I tries CVS Overnights that are supposed to be like the old Huggies but they blow up and just didn't look comfy. So I went back to Huggies. We've had more success recently though now that I'm very careful about putting it on. If this makes sense, I open the diaper fully and run my fingers up and down the elastic first.

  • Forgot to mention that some people add a diaper booster pad (check Amazon) with good success. Some mentioned even putting it in the diaper horizontal if that makes sense.

  • DS is wearing Pampers Overnights in Size 4, and they pretty much leak every single night too.  His jammies and onesie are wet, and sometimes it leaks to the sheet, leaving a big wet spot that he's been laying in.  He sleeps 12 hours a night, so I just figured that it came with the territory of a long sleeper.  I guess I could try a larger size...maybe look into the booster pad too.

  • Go up a size, get specifically overnight diapers, or try diaper doublers.

DS wears size 3 during the day, but size 5 overnights at night b/c he was leaking through size 4s.

  • From most of my talks with moms, kids seem to fit either Huggies or Pampers better.  Those that fit Pampers well, don't work with Huggies.  My LO is a Pampers kid.  We tried Huggies and they leaked a lot.

On a separate note, whenever his diaper starts overflowing overnight, I move up a size for nighttime only regardless of the weight limits listed on the box.  The leaking then stops until he is ready for the next size up.
