IVF and "overstimulated"...??

I had my last u/s on Saturday...ER scheduled for Monday (yesterday).  After my appointment on Saturday, the nurse called and told me that I was overstimulated, so we have to cancel the cycle.  She said to keep taking my lupron shot at night, and start a provera Rx.  I'm still waiting for the doctor to call me....and answer all my questions....  But I was hoping some of you might have some advice.  Has anyone had their cycle canceled because of being overstimulated?  If so...what were you told to do?  I'm taking the lupron still and the Rx...but I don't know if we should try on our own...or if we shouldn't...  I guess I'm just frustrated and overwhelmed at this point.

I don't have experience with getting cancelled, but I'm pretty sure I am dealing with OHSS post-ER...not fun! They told me to eat lots of protein and salty foods and to drink at least 8 glasses of gatorade a day. I'm not sure if you should try on your own since pregnancy can make OHSS worse...maybe check with your RE? Best of luck!

I would suggest you not try on your own, and that you follow your drs instructions. Trying on your own would put you at HUGE risk of HOM, if you were stimulated for an IVF, and if OHSS is already a concern it would only get worse. A canceled cycle sucks, but your health is more important.

Yes, last Dec. my IVF cycle was cancelled after ER b/c I overstimmed. I had ridiculously high E2 levels and a lot of follies (47) and eggs retrieved (30). I was pretty miserable after ER & several days afterward did develop minor OHSS.  

After my cycle was cancelled I was told that I needed to abstain.  I was also told that I needed to sit out 2 periods for my FET.  My RE put me on 5 days of Ganirelix injections post ER. I was also told to look out for the more severe OHSS warning signs, to weigh myself every morning, to cut out sugar for 10 days (this included Gatorade b/c of the sugar) and to drink a lot of Electrolyte Water.

Im sorry your cycle was canceled. Its definitely best though to give you body a chance to rest up. Will you do an FET? 

I also had crazy high hormone levels and had 25 eggs retrieved. My doctor told me that OHSS was a real risk for me so he canceled my HCG trigger and triggered me with Lupron instead (he had put me on the antagonist protocol bc he was afraid I would be a high responder). Apparently this makes the chances of OHSS almost impossible. You may want to ask your doctor about this in the future.

Well it's been since Saturday and I still haven't heard from the actual RE.  I guess it's a safe assumption that we won't be able to do an FET because he didn't even do the retrieval, and this was our first IVF.  My eggs were all squished together...but the nurse counted 15 to 20 on each side.  They were all in the 15-21 size.  She said 18-23 is when they are mature enough for retrieval.  I don't understand why we couldn't have at least continued with retrieval, so I don't have to go thru all the shots again.  I wish the RE would call!  In the mean time....I'm so thankful for your input!  Thanks so much.
