I am new to cloth. I just swapped my 17 month old and I love it! I have figured out which diapers work best for him and have started building a stash. How many diapers should I work towards? I am also due with #2 in June. I would like to cloth diaper from day 1 and I have seen newborn cloth and I am wondering if they are worth it , or if I should take the disposable route for a few weeks. Any advice is appreciated.
Re: 2 kids in cloth & newborn diapers
Congrats on the big switch! We used NB cloth for both LOs so I think it's worth it! Prefolds and covers are economical and work so well for a newborn. We also used a couple of fitteds (such as Mutts or NB B4s) to make night changes easier, but it can be done with just a PF stash. And because NB diapers are only used for a short period of time they usually have a great re-sale value. Just something to think about.
I used prefolds and covers with DS and didn't love them. It was my first time with cloth diapers (really with any diapers as it was my first kiddo!) and I thought they were too messy. Luckily, he was a giant baby so he fit into the one-size pockets pretty early on.
With DD, I've really fallen in love with GMD fitteds. She's just growing out of the orange-edge and into the yellow-edge. I've been using our GroVia covers now, but I used the Bummis Whisper Wrap when she was itty bitty. I think I only have 12 of each size fitted, but I also have a handful of FB extra smalls, and a boatload of prefolds as well.
