Cloth Diapering

What's wrong with my BG diapers?

We have been using BumGenious AIOs in XS on the baby at night and going out. They were working great until this week. Now every time she wears them, even if just a few hours, the BG tag on the outside of the diaper gets wet which then gets her clothes wet. What is going on here? Am I doing something wrong? Can the problem be solved by just cutting the stupid tag off? Thanks!

  • "even if just a few hours" I change camden every 2-2.5 hours during the day and she is 9 months.  Maybe you are waiting too long between changes.

Yes we change her every two to three hours during the day.

  • Sounds as though she's outgrown the absorbancy of the diapers.  It might be time to look for something more absorbant or something you can customize (like a pocket or fitted diaper.

  • She's outgrown the absorbency. I'd change her more often or add absorbancy. Sounds like nothing is wrong with the diapers.

  • So a wet tag means she has outgrown the diaper even though she isn't leaking out the front/back/sides? It's just the tag that's wet.
  • How much does LO weigh?  I would think moving up to the next size or switching to a one-size wuld fix the issue.

  • You could try a trip through the dryer on high to reseal the PUL. I've had luck with that fixing pockets that wicked at the tag.

That said, 2 months in BG XS is pretty astounding and you'll likely need more absorbancy soon anyway.

  • She's about 10.5 lbs. And the diapers say they fit up to 12. The plan is to move to a pocket as soon as she can fit into them. But so far we have been really happy with prefolds during the day and the BG AIOs at night and when out and about, except for this wet tag issue....

    Thanks for the feedback everyone.

She's a skinny minny. But yeah, it might be time to swtich them out...

    Thanks!

  • DS outpeed his NB diapers before he outgrew them. It's inconvenient, but it happens!
  • I guess my question is, is a wet tag a sign of increased peeing? In other words, how did you know your son was outpeeing his diapers?

They were sopping wet within an hour.

Try resealing the PUL (20 min on high in the dryer). If that doesn't work, then it's definitely time to move on up, or just add a doubler.

Will do. Thanks for the tip and advice.
