Help Please!! Fisher Price rock 'n play

We've had our daughter in the Fisher Price rock 'n play since we brought her home.  It was the only way we could get her to sleep.  Now, she's 4 months and I'm trying to get her sleeping in her crib before she's too big for the rock 'n play.  We've gone cold turkey from the rock 'n play to the crib for the past week, but none of us have gotten any sleep!! I've seen ZERO improvement.  She was sleeping great at night! (730pm-8am with me feeding her asleep at 11 before I went to bed and waking up for a feeding at about 5:30am) Now she's up every hour at best. She's still swaddled at night and has a white noise machine.  Has anyone else gone cold turkey or weaned from the rock 'n play? How/when did you do it? I'll take any advice!!

  • Are you putting her down drowsy but awake?

  • yep! she was falling asleep and sleeping perfectly before.  I put her down drowsy still, but it takes her forever to fall asleep in the crib and is up again in an hour.  CIO is not an option because of our 2 yr old
  • I had the same issue. At 3 weeks DD was STTN, but we needed to transition. Someone on here suggested rolling up 2 blankets and putting them under the sheets. Give them a feeling of still being in the RnP. If you have a crib wedge that will help too with the adjustment. We started the transition right when the 4mw started and it lasted 1.5 months. I was exhausted and doing this pregnant wasn't easy. Now she sleeps 12 hours a night straight! We of course don't use the blankets anymore, but I do still rock her to sleep. Sometimes I don't rock her into a deep sleep and put her down and she still goes to sleep on her own.

    Good Luck!!

  • Put pillows and rolled up towels under the mattress to raise it onto a slight incline, or just buy a crib wedge.

  • We put a really flat pillow under one side of his mattress. With the mattress flat, he acted like we were trying to kill him asking him to sleep. Slightly elevated (not even as much as the RNP) he slept great.

I forget when I took away the pillow, but now he sleeps flat no problem. I still put it back occasionally if he has a nasty cold/congestion.

  • We did the same thing as you- cold turkey- when DD was about 6.5 months. And we had the same thing happen. She went from STTN to up constantly. I'd say it took at least 2 weeks before she finally adjusted, but then one night, it was like magic- she just slept! I don't know if she just gave up the fight, or realized RNP was not coming back, but she STTN again. We seriously almost gave up and put her back in RNP because we were all so miserable, but I am glad we didn't. I think if you can just get through this rough patch, she may be okay.

We were going to try the weaning, but it just seemed like then we would have to keep going through all these extra transitions, and it just seemed better to do it cold turkey. And as I type this, she is napping in her crib like a champ :)  Good luck- it is not easy- but hang in there. It will get better!

  • We still use the rock n play for Charlie, we let him fall asleep in it at night and I gently put him in his crib before I go to bed (ususally 2-3 nights a week). He ususally sttn with not problems, We do the same thing for naps on the weekend.  The nights where the wants to fall asleep in my arms, I will wait until he is sound asleep for about 30 mins and then put him in his crib with no issues.

I know each baby is different but maybe this could work for you. Good luck

  • We transitioned smoothly. For 2 nights we put her I the RNP and let her sleep for an hour. We then moved her to the crib. After that we put her in directly, no problems. We did find that she didn't like being swaddled in the crib but was fine in the RNP swaddled. So we unswaddled and now we sleep 10-12 hrs no problem in the crib (with one 3am feeding).

  • Try getting rid of the swaddle, changing the noises on the sound machine (some babies respond better to different ones), add blankets, let him sleep on his tummy, etc. It's tough to find what works, and it always changes.

  • We had to transition very slowly. We started at 4 months with just naps in the crib..RnP at night.  After naps were going ok for about a month, we tried nights. The first few were rough..but now he sleeps in his crib every night.

  • We had this same issue. We tried to transition cold turkey to the crib at 4 months, and it was a huge fail. I tabled it, waited a couple of weeks, and tried again. We started with naps... then just went cold turkey. At that point she was attempting to roll from back to stomach in the RNP (!) and I realized she wanted to sleep on her tummy. It was rough, and actually she still wakes 1x per night in her crib (3 months later, sigh). But she was ready to be out of it. Maybe wait a couple weeks and try again?
