I am getting ahead of myself, as I am not even pregnant, and do not plan on TTC for at least a year or more. But H and I were discussing boys names, and we both like Aaron.
The thing is I have a first cousin named Erin. She is still a kid, under 10 years old. We see her family maybe once every 2 years as they live on the other side of country. But we stay in touch and I would consider our families close. In my made up scenario, would it be weird for us to use the name Aaron if we have a second child and it is a boy?

I agree. I am an Erin (from Rhode Island) and they are not pronounced the same. Although I have met people from other parts of the country who call me Air-in, which is not how I pronounce either name.
But OP, I agree this shouldn't be an issue. I don't think anyone would find it weird.
use it!
i like aaron.
I agree!
I need to hear someone from New York say these names sometime. I pronounce them the same and I can't quite figure out how they would be pronounced differently. I think using Aaron would be fine.
It's so hard for me to type it out phonetically but I'd pronounce Erin as Eh-rin with the same "e" sound as in elephant and I'd pronounce Aaron as Ah-ron with the same "a" sound as in apple. Hope that made a little sense! Maybe someone can do a better job of explaining it!
I'm not from NY, but I am from RI (2 hours away) so I'm sure it's the same. I say Aaron with the soft A sound in "apple", and I say Erin with the soft E sound in "elephant".
Thanks for that explanation! That actually does help. So I'm pronouncing both names like Air-in, which is not like either of your pronunciations.
My husband is Aaron. We live in RI now but I am from Illinois....so I say AIR-rin. My BFF is Erin, and I would normally say it the same as Aaron, but she schooled me big time. :-) I call her Eh-rin with the E like elephant, like PPs said.
Some people call my DH Ahh-rin but I just can't get my mouth to make that sound. It sounds forced when I try to say it.
He is from Virginia so he isn't stuck on the New England way of pronouncing.
Point is, Aaron and Erin are different names. I see no issue with cousins being named these names.
So funny!
If you don't see them often don't worry about it.
