i went to the dr this morning and my blood pressure was high and has never been high my whole pregnancy, i'm currently 35wks and 3 days but just found out i'm measuring a week ahead, the nurse had me lay on my left side and my bp dropped. but i get headaches every now and then and they haven't been bad until tonight and i'm been swelling for about 2 weeks, dr even said my feet and legs are swollen, i'm suppose to call if anything changes. have any of you gone thru this? this is my first pregnancy and i just need advice
Re: caution on pre eclampsia, advice pls
I actually had the exact same thing happen with my DD, minus the swelling. The doc was concerned bc my blood pressure shot up. They had to monitor me a little more frequently...I had to go in for a BP check between appointments. However, I took it easy but did some short walks, drank a lot of water and rested. I would up being a week late!
Good luck and try not to stress. Pay attention to your body but don't become alarmist -- you will know if something is wrong. And if in doubt, call the dr to ask.
Did they actually check your urine or do a 24 hour urine catch or complete blood work panel?
My BP shot up for a bit around week 33 and its normal now. I have swelling and headaches which are all normal parts of pregnancy.
Check you BP at home, watch your salt, and drink lots of fluids. Freaking out will make your BP go up.
Do you have headaches with black spots or loss of vision? Rib pain on the right side under your breasts? Do you get nauseated with your headaches?
The best thing for you to do is ask the DR to run more tests and monitor it at home.
Cut your salt intake and get your feet up as much as possible! With DS I was induced because of preg induced hypertension (not quite pre-e, but pretty darn close!)...
Most of all, keep a close eye on things. The second you notice your hands or face swelling, or it doesn't go down with putting your feet up, get in to the office or L&D right away... At this point you know you're at risk, so do what you can to keep your LO cooking for as long as possible! Around the 38 week mark my doc sent me in for monitoring because of pre-e risk which pretty much amounted to a 24-hour urine test and bedrest...
Along with everything else a huge factor will be the amount of protein in your urine. That will show if your liver is fuunctioning properly.
I've had Pre-e twice and induced twice. My 2nd son was born at 35 weeks because of severe Pre-e. I've been lucky enough to escape it this time (so far).
Good news is, even if you do develop it you are far enough along now that the baby should be just fine.
