Immunology Bloodwork - cost skyhigh - Is there another option?

Hi Ladies,

Before my IVF cycle, I would have to do Immunology Bloodwork specifically through Rosalind Franklin University lab in Chicago. It would need to be overnighted from here in San Francisco.

The tests are:

Anti-phospholipid Antibodies

NK Assay

TH1/TH2 Intracellular Cytokines

The cost is $1300. Whattt???? This seems SO expensive. And my insurance will not cover any of it.

So, my question is: Did you find a cheaper way to get this bloodwork done? I know the answer is probably "no," but figured I'd throw it out here to the all-knowing ones. :)

ttc since 2/2010 ~
me (36): Hypothyroid (on Levothroid), low vit. d, borderline/high fsh (day 3: between 7-10) (day 10: 13 during CCCT), AFC: 14
dh (31): awesome (minus one sample with agglutination)
Diagnosis:possible DOR and/or unexplained + elevated NK cells + MTHFR (C677T - one copy)

MAY 2011 - FEB 2012 - 3 injectable IUI's with numerous cancellations due to high TSH levels
MAY 2012 - onto IVF/ICSI (Antagonist Protocol) on BCP and Folgard (3 week delay - cyst - boooo) 5/21 start stims 5/30 ER 11R 8M 3F 6/2 3DT of 3 6/12 Beta #1 83 | 6/14 Beta #2 196 | 6/21 Beta #3 3818 | 6/28 Beta #4 22,213 | 7/2 1st U/S - 2 on board! 8/24 CVS reveals that we have a boy AND a girl on board!

Healthy baby boy and girl born in February, 2013 at 38 weeks and 2 days!

    i dont think thats expensive at all... my immune & thrombo blood work was almost 30 vials... without insurance its 19k. 

    all of my blood work was through Reprosource, but i know that they did send something to Chicago.  I dont know if it was the same lab you mentioned, id have to look at the results again.  My guess would be no.

    Antiphospholipid antibodies should be able to be done at any lab. It's a fairly routine test.

    I think the others are only done by specialized research labs, because they are not yet established diagnostic tests.

    I skipped those partly for that reason, and just did the anti-phospholipid Ab and anti-thyroid antibodies.

    I paid $985 for mine and it was more tests then that. I used Reprosource in NY.

    You must see the same RE as me. 

    There is no cheaper way and the treatments are really expensive too.  He won't let you do the b/w anywhere else.  If you choice to do a single cycle you don't have to do the testing, if you are doing any of his programs, he will make it required.

    Thanks so much for the info. ladies. I will definitely pester Ka*ser to let me take the APA test with them. I've also sent an email directly to the lab to see if there are any other ways I could take the test and send it to them. I know I am that all too thorough, a little bit pestery patient but I can't help myself. This stuff is expensive!

    mdluv21 - I will be pm'ing you next week with some questions on Dr. Z if you don't mind. I am still doing IVF comparison shopping :/
