Maternity Clothes

When did you start wearing maternity clothes? I still haven't gone out and bought any, I've been able to fit select pieces of my normal clothing... I'm just wondering if maybe there's a big spurt I should be expecting and a good time to start looking.... TIA Smile

Re: Maternity Clothes

  • I am a little bit bigger (size 16) and my bloat was horrible in the beginning... I was more comfortable in maternity clothes starting around 11-12 weeks...

  • I started wearing maternity pants at 11 weeks - I had really bad cramping in the beginning and any sort of pressure on my midsection made it worse. I'm 20 weeks now and have to wear tops too, because my chest has gotten so big and now I have a belly!

  • Some of my regular clothes still work- longer/stretchier tees and sweaters for tops, and of course leggings, yoga pants, jeggings, etc. I had a few pairs of pants that were in a size bigger from my old size (I wore that size in uni and am a packrat, so of course they were still in a tote at my mom's) that I can still wear too, but I'm carrying kind of high. Maternity clothes are so comfy, though, so I mostly wear them and supplement my wardrobe with the non-maternity stuff. I've been wearing maternity pants since about 18-19 weeks.

  • I started wearing maternity jeans regularly around 16 weeks.  I didn't have to, and still don't - my regular jeans still fit, particularly low rise/stretcy jeans.  They just aren't comfortable and I feel like I'm constant pulling them up.  With the maternity jeans I don't feel like my butt or belly are ever peeking out.  My regular shirts are starting to fit weird - again, I can still wear them, they just don't look as good/flattering as maternity tops.  I love maternity tanks for the length and fit.

I am lucky though because I work at Gap and have had access to some great deals with my empoyee discount and started stockpiling maternity clothes a few years ago in anticipation of getting pregnant.  I definitely wouldn't have the maternity wardrobe that I have without that discount.

For reference, I'm a size 2/4 and have gained about 7 lbs.

  • I just now got maternity pants to wear, but I still pull shirts from my closet. I've gain weight but I am not sure where. It seems like my belly is the only thing growing.

  • im about to be 17 weeks and i actually havent worn any maternity clothes yet. i have bought a few pairs of pants but they dont fit right without a bump i feel like...ive just been wearing my more stretchy jeans and leggings. im a size 14 usually, with a large chest, so a lot of my shirts still fit fine!

  • I'm nearly 21 weeks and I'm thinking about heading to Gap tonight to get a pair of maternity jeans.  My jeans are still ok but they're a little uncomfortable when I sit down.

  • I started wearing maternity clothes at 18 weeks. Most of my regular clothes still fit fine (now I'm 19 weeks), but a maternity store around here was having a HUGE sale for one week only so I figured I'd take advantage. Now I am glad I did! Even though I may have been able to last in my normal clothes a while longer, maternity clothes are AMAZING. I have never had more comfortable jeans in my life!

  • I am 20 weeks and I have 2 pairs of full-panel maternity pants (black and grey from Old Navy) and 2 pairs of under belly jeans (Motherhood boot cuts and Old Navy jeggings) in the rotation.  I started wearing the pants at 14 weeks and the jeans around 16.  Most of my tops, dresses, skirts still fit, but I am kinda pear-shaped, so clothes were always roomy in the chest and waist before I got pregnant.  All the maternity dresses and tops I try are way too big.
