Random Funny, Where I Nearly Died. PNR

About an hour ago DH was getting ready to give DS a bath, normal everyday routine and he calls me into DS's bedroom to ask me if it smells like gas.

It totally did, so I got a little panicky and immediately called the front desk security (we live in a high-rise). The security woman came up and agreed it did smell like gas and instructed us to call PSE&G immediately, especially b/c it was the baby's room. Neither she or I could say whether the heating elements are gas powered, so it made sense.

I called my dad first, who is a professional maintenance/handyman and asked him what he thought. "Well, the heaters in your place are powered by gas, but that is downstairs in the basement. All that runs through the heaters in your apartment is hot water. ::pause:: You know, sometimes baby poop mixed with Desitin can smell like gas." ::laughter::

So I hung up the phone and made DH empty the diaper genie (genie my arse) and lo and behold that was in fact the problem. (I swear I just emptied that thing yesterday!!!)

So of course, I call my dad back with tears in my eyes from laughing at my stupidity. And he says "Well poop can actually produce methane as it breaks down." ::more laughter::

The kicker is that we just got a courtesy call from the security guard and I nearly died when DH told her "Oh yeah, it's fine now. We figured out what the problem is. Well, we have a baby and he poops a lot, so we figured out that it was just the poop that smelled."

Good idea! So he can look back one day and see what a couple jackholes his parents are/were.
