bruise question

Has your kid ever gotten a bruise on their ear?

DS has a habit of hitting his head against things (he has special needs and is unable to grasp how close things are to him) and i've never seen a bruise on him before.

But today on the outer edge of his ear is a dark purple circle about the diameter of a pencil eraser and slightly swollen. 

Normal?

Yep. We had a routine appointment with the pedi around the same time, so I asked her about it. She said it was normal. Just a bruise.

Sounds pretty normal, maybe just a small hematoma or blood blister?  If it keeps happening or he seems to be bruising pretty easily, I'd let pedi know they may wanna test his blood counts, platelets and clotting factors and such.

he's had numerous hematologic workups, so I'm not concerned about a blood disorder.

I've just never seen a bruise on an ear.  I didn't even realize they could bruise.
