Infertility

Probably a ridiculous question re: hair dye.

Sorry for the lame question.

I get my hair colored- an all-over brown color and then additional highlights.

My next hair appt is for the week of my "hopefully!!" transfer. I don't even want to think about messing around with chemicals and my body at that time!

Do you think if I went the week before my procedures that I would be OK? Or just forget about coloring until I'm well into my pregnancy or if we get a BFN deal with it then?

I've read a lot of mixed reviews on pregnancy and hair dye. Would hate to risk doing something that could be a detriment to my body at this time.

Re: Probably a ridiculous question re: hair dye.

  • Everyone that I've spoken to has a different opinion about this topic.   I've decided to use LUSH henna to cover my gray until I've finished with IVF.  But, I'm interested to find out if anyone has any scientific evidence about the safety of hair dye.
  • I have the same issues and have gone organic since starting the IVF rollercoaster late last year. I am using all natural ingredients as much as possible and organic for food when I can (we are about 90% organic now).

I am using the hair color from Whole Foods, called Nutratint. It worked great and no nasty ingredients. Henna will go a touch of red so be careful with that and best on virgin hair.

GL in what you decide, I think that your dilemma is a very valid one

    Multiple ectopics, 2 failed IVF's
IVF #1: Did not get to ET, embies all failed PGD (major chromosomal defects)
IVF #2: We have 2 chromosomally perfect embies as a result of PGD (Boy/Girl) 1 failed the thaw (Girl) Transferred 1, yet ended as a c/p
Thought it was the end of our TTC Journey 6/20/2012
SHOCK BFP 9/28/2012: IT'S A BOY! and everything is normal !!!!!!

  • Ticker Warning

I had the same concern.  My nurse said that coloring while stimming or before transfer was fine.  I actually didn't get around to doing it.  Now, I'm really wishing that I had.  I'm getting so many greys!  My OB says dying your hair after 16 weeks is ok.  Good luck with your cycle.

  • I am glad you asked this! I was debating on if I should dye or not! I guess I should!
