when do they typically start doing internals?

They did one for me at 36w during my GBS test, but I won't have any more until I go into labor or overdue (whichever comes first).

My OB starts them at 36 weeks, at the same time the weekly appts start.

My OB told me they start checking at 36w, some request not to have it, some have it every week. I've only skipped on week 37 since I didn't really have any contractions that week, it was my only freebie. They plan to check me each week till I go into labor.

My OB's start at 37 weeks, and do it weekly until labor starts. I had my first one today and I'm only 1cm, but 80% effaced and baby is low! With DD I was 1cm for weeks. Even when my water broke, I went to the hospital a few hours later and I was still only 1cm. But labor kicked in quickly and I was able to avoid any induction agents.

I just was checked for the first time yesterday at 38 weeks 4 days, but she thought she had checked me the week before at 37 weeks 4 days.

I was checked at 36 weeks when they did the GBS test. Not checked at 37 weeks, but checked again at 38 weeks. Went into labor before my 39 week appointment otherwise I would have been checked at that week's appointment too.

My doctor told me today at my week 37 appt that internals will start at week 39 appt, but I've been having an u/s every week since week 35 since I am 36 and considered AMA.

I think mine start at 36 weeks when I start seeing her weekly and then are repeated every week until the baby comes.

I actually get none (unless I *want* one). I did the GBS swabbing myself - they said most people prefer it that way. Which was fine, except I can hardly find a thing down there at this point!

You can decline. There's no point to internals. As many have said - you could be 1-3 cm for weeks and not go into labour or be totally closed and have the baby tonight. Why put yourself through that for no point? My OB did the first one at 41 wks last time.

My doctor starts them at 34 weeks too! I'm nervous for it... I've heard the first one is kind of painful because you just don't expect it to hurt as much as it does. We shall see!
