If you spread out Vaccinations...

I am wondering if anyone has waited to give the MMR/Chicken Pox/ Hep A shots? If so, or if you are spreading your shots out, how are you doing it? What age are you giving it? I am up to date as of now, but want to wait on some shots and spread some out... My LO is 9 months old... TIA!

Re: If you spread out Vaccinations...

  • My daughter has had all recommened vaccines up until 15 months old.  I held her off on the MMR.   i MIGHT have her get the MMR at her 18 months only because we are taking a family vacation in June before new baby comes and where we are going there will be oodles of other children. I'd hate for one of those children to be a carrier or something and DD end up with something that could have been avoided.  If we weren't traveling I'd probably of held it off until longer.   GL. :)

  • I suggest asking your pediatrician instead of an online message board.

Did you read that Dr. Sears Vaccine Book?  He gives some suggestions for spaced out schedules.

Have you read any peer-reviewed information on benefits of spacing vaccines out?  Do you have a family history of vaccine allergies / serious reactions?

FYI, a measles patient at the SuperBowl infected a bunch of people.  90% of people who are not immune to it will get it.  Please re-consider delaying the measles vaccine.

  • Yes, have the Dr sears book and read it.. I just wanted some wanted to see what others have done so that I can make an informed decision... I will be sure to get all the vaccinations, but when I feel comfortable doing so... TY
  • We got MMR on schedule, but delayed the other shots usually given at the same visit until later that same summer (got MMR in May, others in July & September, if I remember correctly).

We waited until DD was starting pre-school to do Chicken Pox and this was only because it was required. I would have postponed it longer, if possible. We're now living in France and Chicken Pox isn't even a standard vaccination here.

We haven't done Hep A yet. I'll have to look at the state requirements for public school when we return to the U.S. We just did Hep B before coming to France because it was required for school here. In our home state, it's not required until kindergarten.

My point is that asking a bunch of strangers who happen to be mothers is NOT an informed decision.

Your "comfort" level affects everyone else's health.  That is why I am urging you to actually obtain information.  Internet strangers with kids don't count.
