If you want to splurge and you do a lot of cooking then I would go with an All Clad stainless steel set. We have a nice set that we got for our wedding almost 5 years ago and I love, love, love it. DH and I cook a lot and it has held up great, even when we thought we had ruined it! We use those pans for everything except eggs because eggs are just best in a non-stick skillet (at least for me). You can get those for cheap at Target, though, to add to your set.
We have a Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Steel. It's not All Clad (jealous!), but it does a really nice job. We cook a ton and it's all held up really well, no stains, no warping. I think our starter set was $300, to which we've added the 13" high-sided skillet and another 10" omelet pan. That set, with a Lodge cast-iron pan, takes care of our cooking needs pretty well.
We got a nice Caphlon Stainless Steel set for our wedding a few years ago. The ones I saw on the Kohl's website have plastic handles. Ours have metal handles, so we can stick them into the oven.
Thanks for the responses ladies. I've never had SS before but thats what I'm leaning towards, good to know about the eggs though too because I actually make eggs quite a bit.
