    What date were you married?

    11.17.07

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding?

I thought it was large... 150+ people crammed into the church basement.

    Traditional or non-traditional?

I'm not sure what that means, I'm assuming traditional.

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them?

Pastor of the church we attended.  We had picked a different pastor but that guy required a years worth of marriage classes and we didn't have time to do it because we were moving out of State.  :( We were attending two churches at the time and the pastor of the smaller church ended up marrying us.  When we moved back here after two years, we have been attending that original Pastor's church ever since.

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her?

My BFF since I was 8.

How many bridesmaids did you have?

    5.

How were your emotions during the day?

I was terrified.  There was a RIDICULOUS amount of Drama with my IL's... including them trying to talk DH out of getting married and when he married me anyway, they stood in the church and talked crap about me/us in front of all my family and friends who later told us about everything they said.  "She made him marry her." (FYI - 4 1/2 years later I can't MAKE this man pick up his dirty clothes.)

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day?

I did.  I was so relieved to finally see him when I was walking down the aisle, I was so afraid that he didn't want to do this especially with the weeks of drama with his parents leading up to it.

    Was there any family drama?

Oh Lord.  Was there drama? HAHA.  We didn't speak to my IL's for 4 months after our wedding.

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches?

The only glitches were my IL's.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding?

My girlfriend sang... I don't think that's very unique.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?

Something old and borrowed - My Grandma who had passed away a few months earlier's ring.  Something borrowed was my veil and headband thinger.  Something blue... I don't know if I had anything blue.

Did you write your own vows?

    Nope.

What song did you walk down to?

    Cannon in D I think

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance?

    No dancing

    Mother, son dance?

    No dancing.

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end?

We left after we found out that at the head table my BIL and his FI (now my SIL) were talking crap about us.  They were sitting right next to us and BIL was spouting off to one of my bridesmaids that he hated us and never wanted to talk to us again (this was all because of MIL and FIL's shenanigans.) We left with me sobbing.  Seriously. My MIL and FIL are the scum of the earth.

Describe (Or add PIP) of your:

wedding dress: strapless satin, very plain.  There was a kind of cross over design in front, in the back there was a bow just below my butt and one big ruffle.  It sound hideous so I put a picture at the bottom so you don't think I'm nuts.

veil: Pretty plain too.  Fingertip length, ribbon edge.

shoes: My favorite part.  Hot pink Kate Spade heels.  I found them and fell in love but couldn't justify the money.  My mom said she could though, so I let her :)

bouquet: Bright orange, yellow, green, and pink flowers.  A ton of different ones all put together.  Oh and did I mention it weighed 9 lbs???  Don't know what my florist was thinking.

hairdo : Awful.  I don't even know what to call it, my hair lady (DH's cousin) f-ed it up so bad one of my bridesmaids tore it down and redid it in about 10 minutes before I walked down the aisle.

bridesmaid dresses: Bright pink, strapless, just below the knee.  Also satin.

groomsmen tuxes/suits: Black tuxes, bright green vests.

    colors: Pink and green

ceremony venue: Big huge amazing church downtown

reception venue: Hilton Hotel just a few blocks from the church

    center pieces: Flowers

wedding cake: 4 tiered, round bright green with black swirly design all over it and a couple bright pink dahlias.  Layers were white cake with lemon, tirimasu, red velvet with cream cheese, and poppyseed with raspberry cheesecake.

What date were you married? August 22, 2009

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding? About 225 people.  Pretty good sized

Traditional or non-traditional? Uhhh... I guess the ceremony was pretty traditional.

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them? My church pastor.  Because she's great.

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her? I had two, each of my sisters.

How many bridesmaids did you have? 4 bridesmaids in addition to the 2 maids of honor

How were your emotions during the day? Uhh... (I'm going to sound snotty) my hair lady screwed a ton of stuff up.  So I started drinking early (the entire wedding party did actually) and was much more calm after that.

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day? Nope

Was there any family drama? The hair lady.  She showed up late, without her assistant and thought she could do 9 people's hair and makeup in 3.5 hours.  It was a mess.

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches? Just the hair.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding? We had a bagpiper play me down the aisle and also DH and I back up.  Then he played and led the guests to the reception while we took pictures.  Then came back and played and led the wedding party there also.  It was like a parade.  Pinata at the reception, pink and green fortune cookies for favors, and vodka snow cones at the reception.  My photographer called it a carnival... I loved it.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue? Old, borrowed, and blue was my great grandmother's sapphire ring, new was my dress

Did you write your own vows? Nope

What song did you walk down to? I walked down to the bagpipe, I can't remember the song.

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance? DH - My Valentine, Martina McBride.  Father-Daughter - Unforgettable, Nat King Cole.  Mother-Son - I can't remember!  Ha!

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end? We were the last to leave.  I had a blast and didn't want to go!  So most of the wedding party then went out to the bars in our dresses and tuxes.  It was so fun!

  • Describe (Or add PIP) of your:

wedding dress: simple, but elegant - diamond white, strappless, fitted at the top, jewel on the hip

veil: I wore one for the ceremony - I never thought I would, but when I tried it on with the dress, I loved it.  I took it off before the reception.

shoes: simple, low, chunky heel so I didn't sink into the grass (ceremony on a golf course) but very comfortable for dancing!

bouquet: Roses!  Ball of white, and two shades of pink.  I loved it.

hairdo : Pulled up with curls in the back - started falling out as I danced - not happy with my hair/makeup!

bridesmaid dresses: knee length, raspberry colored, strappless, the top was similar to the top of my dress.  Pretty!

groomsmen tuxes/suits: They wore Ralph Lauren black tuxes with a raspberry tie and black vest.

colors:  Raspberry and pale pink - yes, I LOVE pink!

    ceremony venue: Golf Course

    reception venue: Country Club ballroom

center pieces: We had 4 different variations - they were amazing!  Some really large, others small, beautiful pink roses!

wedding cake: my favorite thing!  I'll attach a photo!  It was delicious and beautiful!

What date were you married? July 3, 2011

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding? Medium - 130 guests

Traditional or non-traditional?  Mostly traditional - except that our ceremony was not in a church which was very non-traditional to my family.

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them? A minister - family friend

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her? My sister-in-law - I do not have a sister, but she is just about as close as you can get to having one and I didn't want to pick between my two best friends, so they were the bridesmaids.

How many bridesmaids did you have? MOH and 2 bridesmaids, 1 junior bridesmaid and 2 flower girls

How were your emotions during the day? I was very calm - extremely happy and only nervous for those few minutes before walking down the aisle.

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day? I cried during our vows during the rehearsal, but not at the wedding.  The only time I cried on the wedding day was during my dad's speech and my sister in law's speech.

Was there any family drama? Not really.  My crazy aunt was dancing inappropriately with anyone she could, so it has been the joke ever since, but it wasn't really drama - we are all used to it, and it doesn't bother me.

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches? It was perfect!!  We had a family of 4 show up that did not RSVP, so we quickly added a table, but not a big deal.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding? I am irish, and my family loves our heritage, so I had a surprise for everyone - including my parents who thought they did it all for the wedding.  We had a group of bage pipers and drummers come into the reception and play a few songs.  It was awesome!  Our guests were shocked and thrilled.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue? I had jewerly from my grandma (old and borrowed), something new was my dress, and something blue was on my underwear :)

Did you write your own vows? No!  I admire people for that, but I couldn't do it.

What song did you walk down to? When You Say You Love Me - Josh Groban

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance? First dance with DH - Just Breathe, by Pearl Jam.  Father Daughter - Edwin McCain and Mother Son was Rod Stewart - Have I told you Lately.

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end? We were in the last group leaving the reception and then went back to the hotel bar with all of our guests and stayed until 2 a.m. - then back to our room and we made a baby!!!!  A night I will never forget :)

  • Describe (Or add PIP) of your:

wedding dress:  Pretty simple.  A-line, floor length.  Bought it from a formal shop.  I couldn't see spending more than like $100-$200 for a dress I was wearing once...

veil:  Simple again...  Got some mesh from a craft store and glued a few rhinestones on it and a comb to it.

    shoes:  None.  I HATE shoes.

bouquet:  Purple and blue shades of a whole bunch of flowers.

hairdo :  French braided on the sides into an updo.

bridesmaid dresses:  Some purple floor length thing.  I gave her a color square and said "Get something you look good in close to this color."

    groomsmen tuxes/suits:  Plain black suits.

    colors:  Blue, purple, and silver/gray

    ceremony venue:  My parents' church

reception venue:  Cafeteria of the church  school.  Venues in my parents' area start at $3,000 for just the rental space for like 4 hours, no chairs or tables included!  I got the whole hall with tables, chairs, working kitchen, for 9 hours...

center pieces:  Didn't really have any.  The tables had white cloths and purple and silver Hershey Kisses strewn across.

wedding cake:  DH and I had a 2 tier small (4 inch stacked on a 6 inch) chocolate with mint frosting cake.  The guests had 4 choices from sheet cakes-- chocolate and mint, chocolate and peanut butter, lemon cake with raspberry icing, raspberry cake with lemon frosting and white chocolate icing.

What date were you married?  10.10.10-- in binary, that's 42, so our wedding was the answer to the ultimate question.  Wink

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding?  I suppose small.  We sent like 50 invites and had about 60 people show up.

Traditional or non-traditional?  Fairly traditional I suppose.

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them?  No one special, just the pastor at the church.  He was willing to let me have a Sunday wedding.

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her?  Friend from high school.  We met in middle school when she moved into the area because we both know ASL.

How many bridesmaids did you have?  1, just my MoH.

How were your emotions during the day?  Idk.  Anxious.  I wanted to see DH and just get it over with already.

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day?  I'm pretty sure DH didn't. only did because my MoH attacked me while I was resting and tried to put make up on me.  WTF.  I do NOT do make up.  EVER.

Was there any family drama?  From my family, no...  MiL showed up looking so crazy people were asking me who the heck she was.  She had a whorish amount of make up on and her hair was curled INTO her face and she had velvet slippers on and some hippie looking headscarf thing.  Even DH was semi surprised by how she looked...

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches?  Even though I had my dress tailored a week and a half before, without a bra on (wore one the day of with a little bit of padding, so it should have made the chest area a bit bigger...) and wasn't on a diet, somehow the morning of when I was putting it on, it could have been taken in another 3 inches...  So I got safety pinned into my dress and the hanging straps were some tied up contraption to keep my dress on...  I forgot to get costume tape just in case that happened.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding?  I don't think I added anything too unique.  I did tell the piano player though that I would literally kill someone if I heard the Bridal March or Canon in D...

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?  Old-- necklace I inherited from my grandmother.  New-- dress, veil, bra, garter....  lol.  Borrowed-- all the bobby pins in my hair!  Blue-- garter, toenail polish, sapphires on my engagement ring.

Did you write your own vows?  Nope.

What song did you walk down to?  I think it was Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance?  First Dance: Me & You-- Kenny Chesney.  Father/Daughter dance:  I Loved Her First-- Heartland.  Mother/Son dance:  I Hope You Dance-- LeAnn Womack

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end?  Stayed until the end like woah.  The only people who left after DH and I were my parents and the janitors.  We had to break up the party and send people home around 9:30 or 10 PM (reception started about 4 PM) because my family are sort of party animals and still didn't want to stop dancing!  We didn't even have alcohol at our wedding to keep people going!

    Traditional or non-traditional?  Non-traditional

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them?  Some random guy--there are only a few people legally able to marry on the island, so we just picked one.

Was there any family drama?  Haha a little..my mom wore a white dress and I was PISSED!

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches?  It was perfect.  Absolutely perfect. :)

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding?  Instead of a unity candle, we did unity sand (not very unique anymore, but I liked the idea)

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?  Old-a hair pin my great grandma gave me before she died, New-bracelet my now DH gave me the night before the wedding, Borrowed-the earrings I was wearing were my bridesmaids, Blue--my garter.

  • Describe (Or add PIP) of your:

wedding dress: My dress was white and a strapless A-line Maggie Sottero. I just tried finding it but had no luck! I'm at work so I have no pictures!

veil: Very simple veil that came about half way down my back.

shoes: I hardly remember what they look like! But I think they were white peep toe

bouquet: All bouquets were with White Lillies and greenery

hairdo : all my bridesmaides had their hair in updos, while mine was half up and curled.

bridesmaid dresses: were tea length, strapless and a light aqua color

    groomsmen tuxes/suits: nothing fancy

    colors: aqua and white

ceremony venue: Wood Acres Farm, Terryville, CT outside

    reception venue: same as above

center pieces: three cylinders at varying heights filled with grass, river rock and water with a floating candle in each.

wedding cake: Red Velvet! Our topper was just an M for our last name

What date were you married? June 6, 2009

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding? Medium about 160 people

    Traditional or non-traditional? non-traditional

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them? Don't remember his name. We were married outside, so we had found a priest from NY that drove in and did our ceremony.

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her? My bestfriend and the closest thing I have to a sister was my maid of honor. There was no question it would be her.

How many bridesmaids did you have? 4, including my MOH

How were your emotions during the day? I was surprisingly calm and just very happy and excited about the day. I thought for sure I would be nervous and emotional, but instead I just had this natural high the entire day. I couldn't have asked for a better day!

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day? I did not get emotional during the day at all. My DH got a little watery-eyed during the ceremony, but otherwise we were both just very happy

Was there any family drama? My DH's aunt came up to us just as we were about to be introduced into the reception to say that her daughter's name tag was missing at the table. OBVIOUSLY THE EMPTY SEAT WAS HERS!! Ughhh........soooo sorry there was ONE mistake!

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches? Our only problem was with our photographer. Unfortunately, we do not have any great pictures and we were very disappointed in his work. Long story. A friend of mine took a lot of pictures though that turned out much better than the photographer we actually paid for!

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding? Horse and Carriage entrance, and during the cocktail hour, our guests were able to take a carriage ride if they so choosed to do so.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue? Something old was an antique watch my grandmother had given to me, something new was my dress, something borrowed was a last minute thing--my MOH pulled a bobby pin out of her hair and we stuck in in my garter! I then gave it back before I threw the garter, so technically I did only borrow it! and something blue were my panties!!

Did you write your own vows? NO WAY!

What song did you walk down to? Pachelbel's Canon

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance? First dance with DH was "Then" by Brad Paisley and my father/daughter dance was "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end? We stayed until the very end of the reception and then made a quick apperance at the after party that was at the hotel, since we were leaving at 5am to get a limo to the airport for our Honeymoon to Punta Cana, DR!

Wedding Party : Girls had slightly different color greens, maid of honor is in the blue. Guys also had different color greens for their vests.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

ceremony venue: At a traditional cute little stained glass church.

reception venue: At a beautiful golf course in town.

center pieces: Very simple (we were on a budget) just a vase with daisies and floating candles.

What date were you married? May 8th 2010

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding? Small budget but lots of people (about 180).

    Traditional or non-traditional? Very traditional

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them? A childhood pastor of mine. He's been with our family through thick and thin and has been a father figure to me for most of my life. Great guy.

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her? She was my sister in law - I chose her even though we weren't really close simply because I knew she'd be there for me. At the time I was short of friends (kind of a weird time of my life) and my best friend was going off the deep end - lets just say she got into some pretty nasty stuff and I wasn't even sure she would make it to my wedding. I made her my second bridesmaid, but I'm glad she wasn't my maid of honor, she never showed up to any of my parties and showed up two hours late to the wedding.

How many bridesmaids did you have? 5

How were your emotions during the day? Really excited and confident. A lot less crazy and anxious than I thought I'd be.

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day? YES. we both did. As soon as I saw him when I was walking down the isle the waterworks came. By the time I got to the front we both were sobbing. It was kind of hilarious.

Was there any family drama? Not really until after the wedding. We found out my maid of honor (sister in law) was upset with DH and I because there was some stuff she and my brother had to sort out with the reception venue when we left (I guess someone stole some of the wine glasses, and there was drama in returning some stuff - long story). Which none of was our fault - but she still chose to be furious with us that we didn't find a way to work it out ourselves (even though we were on our way to our honeymoon during the drama). Let's just say...... choosing sister in law for maid of honor may have not been the wisest choice. I didn't know her that well and it wasn't until after the wedding that the crazy came out. lol

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches? Other than the stolen wine glasses and the servers not being super attentive we had a flawless wedding.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding? Instead of traditional classical music I had a friend of mine play a bunch of my favorite acoustic indi-folk songs during the ceremony.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue? Something old: The bracelet I wore was an antique. Something new: The necklace I purchased. Something borrowed: The earings were my Maid of Honor's. Something blue : I added a tiny blue/lavender flower to our bouquets.

Did you write your own vows? We did not, but we also didn't use the traditional vows either. We found some prewritten ones and sort of made them our own by editing them.

What song did you walk down to? "Sleeping At Last" by the Umbrellas.

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance? "Far Fare Away" By Wilco. Father Daughter was a song I didn't know actually. DJ messed it up and played the wrong song - oops!

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end? We actually left right after our scheduled festivities during the reception and "escaped". Reception continued afterwards.

  • TRobinetteter-- we had the same first dance song!  Also, I can't believe your mom wore white!  Argh!  That's the only real restriction I told people if they asked attire--  My response was "No white dresses, please, and the groomsmen are only wearing suits."

  • Ugh THANK YOU. I needed a distraction from this awful diagram I'm trying to draw.

Wedding dress: Fairly simple, ivory Jacquelin wedding dress with beaded cap sleeves and an empire waist. We had a destination wedding, so I didn't want a big, fluffy dress.
    Bouquet:
PRETTY! For the life of me I can't remember the name of the flower.
    Hairdo:
The stylist at the resort was awful and unable to repeat my hair trial, so I basically did my own hair.
Bridesmaid dresses:  For the life of me I can't remember the designer.
Groomsmen attire: Casual and untucked white shirts with khaki pants. Flip flops.
    Colors: Pistachio green and purple.

    image

    Shoes:

    image

    Veil: None. Fascinator.

    image

     Ceremony Venue: Beach-side gazebo.

    image

    Reception Venue: Another beach-side gazebo.
Centerpieces: The same flowers as in the bouquets.

    image

Cake: Top tier was vanilla and the bottom tier was chocolate.

What date were you married? February 27th, 2010. Our two year anni is in a couple weeks!

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding? Super small destination wedding in Turks & Caicos. 15 guests.

    Traditional or non-traditional? VERY non-traditional.

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them? I can't remember his name. He was provided by the resort. He had a fantastic Jamaican accent though!

Who was your maid of honor, what made you choose her? My best friend of 12 years, Tiffany. Because she's my best friend.

How many bridesmaids did you have? One additional besides T. HUGE mistake. Will get to that in a minute.

How were your emotions during the day? Great! I was a little tipsy by ceremony time (3pm) because the gals were all drinking champagne in my room.

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day? I cried through the entire ceremony and he got very teared up. I also cried at the reception when my aunt read a really amazing letter from my other aunt who couldn't make the trip.

Was there any family drama? No. Bridesmaid drama, yes. 2nd bridesmaid (who I am no longer friends with) got completely sloshed and threw up at the reception. I later found out she was on pills.

Did the wedding "go off without a hitch" or did you endure any glitches? Without a hitch! It was raining on and off in the morning and I was afraid it would through the whole thing, but it stopped literally 10 minutes before the ceremony started and didn't rain again for the rest of the day.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding? The whole thing was very non-traditional.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue? Didn't do any of that.

Did you write your own vows? No. We tailored the ceremony vows to be more unique to us, but didn't make little speeches to each other. I wouldn't have been able to make it through that.

What song did you walk down to? Caribbean Blue by Enya.

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance? We didn't have dances at all.

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end? We were up all night! The reception ended and then we went back and got changed and rested for a bit and then went to dinner and then we went to a club at the resort for dancing. It was the most amazing day ever. :)

wedding cake:  AMAZING!!!  From Montillio's of Brockton MA - 3 tier square white with chocolate brown detail.  Each layer was different, outside and in!!  Fave layer - orange/lemon marble cake with lemon buttercream and raspberry.

What date were you married? 09/08/07

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding? Medium - 75 guests of 125 invited

Traditional or non-traditional? A little bit of both...we followed a few traditions (like stepping on the glass at the end of the ceremony for our parents (Jewish tradition) and not for others, like no throwing of the bouquet

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them?  Her name was Sue Green and from the moment we met her we loved her style!!  She was very open to all ideas we had!

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her?  Best friend at the time - still very good friend!  Was very important to me at a big time of discovery in my life.

How many bridesmaids did you have? 3 total

How were your emotions during the day? Elation!!  Couldn't wait to see my groom!!  And the Xanax that I took for my anxiety helped a bit!!

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day? I did - first when the officiant talked about those not with us and then when my dad gave a speech.

Was there any family drama? Not that I can recall - my dad was mad at his siblings for a long time though b/c none of them came!

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches? I didn't even pay attention to see if anything went wrong - it all seemed sunshine and roses to me!!

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding? We didn't do anything timed - we kind of just let things happen (except for the serving of the food)...it was an awesome day!!  We went to 5 other weddings that year and we still (to this day) feel like ours was the best!!!

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?  Didn't follow this tradition really - Wore a bracelet that was my mom's that could have been the old, and wore blue undies (I think), and my dress was new - but don't think I borrowed anything!!

Did you write your own vows? Our officiant gave us about 15 different ideas for ceremonies and let us pick and choose and put together what we wanted to say.  So no, not original vows, but words that meant something to us!

What song did you walk down to?  Walked down to Air, from Water Music, and walked back up to an instrumental version of All You Need is Love - We had a string trio

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance? DH and I - acoustic version of Maroon 5's Sunday Morning, Father/Daughter - If I Could by Ray Charles, Mother/Son - Can't Smile Without You by Barry Manilow

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end? Stayed til the end then DH and I took a limo to a bar on the way back to the hotel (where the afterparty was) and had some time just he and I.  Super fun b/c we were still in our wedding clothes - the bar put us on their website!!

  • wedding dress: ivory Private Label by G

veil: two layer, ivory fingertip length, cut edge, handmade by me. At the reception, I changed into a fascinator I also made.

    shoes: brown satin flats

bouquet: also made by me. artificial thanks to a flower allergy

hairdo : not exactly what I wanted, down and wavy with part up

bridesmaid dresses: I had 9 bridesmaids with very different body types, so I went with simple dark brown a line strapless gowns. They did have embroidered champagne colored sashes and trains.

groomsmen tuxes/suits: black tuxes, ivory shirts, brown vests. I was leary of the brown vests with black tuxes but they looked AMAZING. DH wore ivory shirt and ivory vest.

    colors: dark brown and ivory

ceremony venue: Free Methodist church. I'm Catholic, but DH is not real religious. That was our comprimise. I loved I was able to literally write the entire ceremony and could choose whatever music and readings I wanted. It was a beautiful ceremony.

reception venue: The Grand Ballroom at a wonderful venue. It was brand new and BEAUTIFUL, and the decor perfectly matched our colors

center pieces: We had 3.  One was a group of like 9 candle holders with white candles. One was a 4 ft tree made from glittered branches. The other was a large hurricane with an ivory candle with moss between the candle and glass. All of the centerpieces were on top of slices of a large tree on top of a brown/ivory damask square with moss and acorns. They were very organic and amazing.

wedding cake: FUNFETTI with rainbow chip icing filling. I hate the normal wedding cake flavors and that is our favorite cake. The outside was beautiful and simple - three tiers of ivory with this really coarse sugar coating it that looked like ice crystals or something

What date were you married? 11-6-10

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches? The glitches were small things the wedding planner should have dealt with and we didn't really notice till after.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding? The props at our reception. We had inflatable guitars, glitter microphones, feather boas, crazy hats and glasses. maracas.... it was amazing!

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue? Old - the wrap on my flowers was from my mom's wedding dress. New - dress. Borrowed - my slip. Blue - a hankie from my Grammie

Here are some pics I snagged from FB. I have two discs with all of our pics, but there are 900+ pics that I can't go through right now.

You can see the bottom of my dress here.... it was my favorite part:

My dad took pictures of the photographer working. LOL. I had a jacket on because it was about 20 degrees. I had bought all the girls ivory pashminas to wear but they decided they didn't want them on for pics

Obviously this isn't a professiona pic - but you can see the size of our bridal party

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches?

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding?

What song did you walk down to? Forever by Ben Harper played on an acoustic guitar

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end? Yes, we partied until the end and then went to the pre-arranged after party until 3am!

Describe (Or add PIP) of your:

wedding dress: A-line, ivory, with little patches of lace that I never expected to like, but I did.  We didn't have time to order a dress, so it was a sample, and we snagged it for $99.

veil: My mom made one out of a matching ivory.  Hair and veil:

    image

shoes: Were cheap and uncomfortable, and were torn off quickly and replaced by aqua-colored chucks.  They may be overdone, but they are waaaay more comfortable.

bouquet: Like one of the PPs, I, too, love color.  My florists were so excited to be able to pretty much run wild with it.  This is a shot of my maid of honor holding the bouquet during the vows.  And planning world domination, judging from the look on her face.

    image

    hairdo : See above.

bridesmaid dresses: We had very little planning time, and the rushing made me make choices I wouldn't make now.  If I did it over again, they would choose their own within the color range.  But this was what we actually went with:

    image

groomsmen tuxes/suits: All wore black tuxes.  Hubby wore a black shirt and a white vest and tie.  The best man wore a black shirt and blue vest and tie, and the rest wore blue shirts with black vests and ties.

colors: Hubby chose the royal blue.  I chose the aqua.  We were moving to Hawaii shortly after the wedding, so decided to go with ocean colors.

ceremony venue: The Klub Haus garden patio, St. Paul, MN.

reception venue: Also the Klub Haus:

    image

center pieces: See above.  Everything was made/put together by me, my parents, and my bridesmaids.

wedding cake: We technically did cupcakes, but the groom's cake was the piece de resistance, although only so if you're a gamer geek, I guess.  My husband had the "Cake is not a lie" Portal cake done, and it was a perfect replica, and delicious!

What date were you married? June 28, 2009

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding? Medium?  110ish people.

Traditional or non-traditional? A little of both.  I would have gone less traditional had I had more time to plan, but using a template in my timeframe helped.

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them? My husband's pre-military pastor.  I'm not Christian, personally, but it was more important to him than it was to me.

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her? A longtime coworker friend/best bud/mentor.

How many bridesmaids did you have? 5 plus flower girl.

How were your emotions during the day? Pretty steady, up until my grandma passed out during pictures (turns out she was anemic - she's okay now).  I was mostly just relieved to be done, and able to enjoy it, and to have my husband with me.  I was in MN and he was in HI during our entire courtship/engagement.

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day? I don't think so.

Was there any family drama? Only the grandma thing.

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches? If there was a glitch, I don't remember it, so it wasn't important.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding? It's a long story, but the very first time my husband and I met, a good friend of mine (who is a violinst) was playing a song at a party, and my now-husband "fake" married me before I even knew his name.  She was one of my bridesmaids, but also played the same song as my processional so we could get "real" married to it.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue? My bridesmaids attached them all to my bouquet: a borrowed lucky penny, a new shamrock pendant, a blue pacifier from one of their sons, and an old ribbon from one of their weddings.

Did you write your own vows? Yes

What song did you walk down to? I think it's called the Triumph Melody.

What song played during your first dance with DH? Dream a Little Dream, but the Mamas and the Papas

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end? We were exhausted, and left a little before the end.

Ugh THANK YOU.

Centerpieces: The same flowers as in the bouquets.

    image

Cake: Top tier was vanilla and the bottom tier was chocolate.

    image

Ugh, girl - you are so gorgeous! Love the pictures.

Honestly, if I were to redo my wedding I'd have a small destination wedding as well. Don't get me wrong, I loved my wedding day - the whole experience is something I cherish and will never forget. But now I sort of wished I would have thrown all the family expectations out the window and just did what DH and I wanted. Oh well, you live and learn. And like I said - totally happy with my wedding day, I just wonder what it would have been like if I would have done the complete opposite. How did you choose who to invite? Was it just immediate family and close friends?

Sorry I don't have time to write out anything lengthy - but here are the first three pictures I grabbed from our online album...

    This photo is GORGEOUS.

    I love your wife's dress!

Thanks - I am completely biased - but my wife looked as if she stepped right out of a movie. Simply breathtaking. But again - I'm biased :)  The dress is Vera Wang...

  • We got married 11:30pm  Friday the 13th in the park we went to a lot while dating.

In attendance, a crazy black chick wrapped in a car blanket ( it was cold and windy ) and two lesbians..and some minister we'd never met before. This was followed by a midninght munchie sesh at Ihop... our fave hangout.

I had long bright pink hair in pigtails ( think fraggle rock LOL ), wearing a tshirt and jeans and a black and white betty boop leather jacket.. hubby was wearing jeans and a tshirt and a jacket.

What can I say.... we like casual and intimate Wink

  • I'm about to head off for our hospital tour, but this seems fun and I'll post a few pics. I got married so long ago, we didn't have digital pics! My husband and I look like babies. We had about 80 people. Tiny church in October. Reception at a golf clubhouse. It was awesome. We only danced together - no mother/son, father/daughter dances. No bouquet toss or garter thingy. It was a really fun day.

Salt, your flowers look exactly like my flowers, which were dendrobium orchids.  They were one of the few things I was dead set on - so pretty!

Also, in agreement on the destination wedding thing!  We found out a few months after our wedding that we could have gotten married on the beach in Hawaii (where we were living by that time) for about $50 + whatever clothes and dinner we may have wanted.  Not that it's entirely about the money, but a couple friends of ours did it, and it was so simple and such an incredibly beautiful backdrop.  And they didn't have to spend months going crazy to make it so beautiful!  Lesson learned.

  • Describe (Or add PIP) of your:

wedding dress: I LOVED my dress and wish I could wear it more often. It was an ivory Maggie Sottero and I was not expecting to find one like this because I'm so short and heavy that I thought the ball gown would make me look heavier.

    image

veil: Just something simple since my dress was the focus. I took it off for the reception.

shoes: They were simple ivory shoes. Very comfy too :)

bouquet: I am pretty sure I couldn't be any more obsessed with my bouquet if I tried.

    Mine

    image

    Girls

    image

hairdo : It was pretty simple. I didn't want it to be a focus and my hair was in a weird in-between length so I just went with something up off my neck and away from my face.

bridesmaid dresses: Girls had burnt orange dresses. It took me forever to find a designer that actually had the right color!

    image

groomsmen tuxes/suits: Guys had traditional black tuxes with black vests (because we couldn't find anyone that had the right burnt orange color) and DH had an ivory shirt and vest but black coat and pants.

    colors: Burnt orange and black

ceremony venue: The church I grew up in

reception venue: A gorgeous venue about 20 minutes from my hometown. I fell in love when I walked in.

center pieces: Every table had a different color mum plant on it. Yellow, orange, purple. They were beautiful and people took them home at the end and planted them so there was nothing wasted.

    image

wedding cake: Loved our cake! It was so simple but absolutely delicious! It was only two flavors, a spice with a apple filling and Italian Meringue Buttercream and the other flavor was pumpkin spice with a cream cheese filling and the Italian Meringue Buttercream. Then the whole thing was covered in fondant.

What date were you married? 10.31.2009 (Best. Holiday. Ever!)

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding? I would say medium. We had 160 guests and 5 bridesmaids and 5 groomsmen.

    Traditional or non-traditional? Traditional

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them? He was a priest in the church and the funniest man on the planet.

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her? My sister. She is the only one who could have done the job.

How many bridesmaids did you have? 5

How were your emotions during the day? They were good in the morning and at night after the ceremony. During the day when we were getting ready at the church I was all over the place.

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day? I did when the best man gave me my gift from DH (pic below) and when my cousin told me when the sun started shining that my Grammy was smiling down on me.

    image

Was there any family drama? Yeah...my cousin who was a bridesmaid was so p!ssed at me that her sister wasn't a bridesmaid that she brought it up every chance she got (she still does to this day). Well I asked her sister to do a reading and she said yes. Twenty minutes before the ceremony was supposed to start, my bridesmaid cousin called her mom to ask where they were and she said they hadn't even gotten ready yet!!! Granted they only lived 5 minutes from the church BUT STILL! So my bridesmaid gets off the phone, turns around and points at me and gets in my face telling me "You told MY family the wrong time!" Well, my best friend and two of my other cousins who were also bridesmaids got in her face before I had a mental breakdown and told her to back the f--- off me and they should have been at the church already so it wasn't my fault. My dad was L-I-V-I-D!!

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches? Pretty much went off without a hitch!

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding? I don't know if there was anything really unique. One of my favorite things though was the table our card box was on. The cardbox was a "haunted house" and my dad carved the pumpkin of Frankenstein carrying his bride. It was so fun. And our "place cards" were mini pumpkins. We had a lot of fun with the date of Halloween without going overboard and being cheesy.

    image

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue? Something old = a necklace DH gave me for our first Christmas together. Something new = my beautiful black and white diamond ring. Something borrowed = my tiara from a good friend/client at work. Something blue = a cross stitched handkerchief from DH's aunt.

Did you write your own vows? No we used traditional vows.

What song did you walk down to? Pachelbel's Canon (Canon in D Minor)

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance? First dance = She's Everything by Brad Paisley. Father/Daughter dance = I Loved Her First by Heartland. Mother/Son dance = The Woman in my Life by Phil Vassar.

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end? We stayed till the very end and I didn't want to leave. It was the best party ever!

PBB: YOU are gorgeous! (And thank you. Embarrassed)

Yes we just had immediate family and very close friends. We wanted to elope, but my mother wouldn't hear it so we basically just did a glorified elopement. :) I wouldn't change a single thing about how we did it. I had an amazing coordinator at the resort to do all the work for me so I barely had to do a thing in the way of planning. Just buy a dress and show up! It was all just really, really relaxed and wonderful. We were there for four days prior to establish residency and then stayed on for a week and a half after the wedding for our honeymoon after all the guests went home. Turks & Caicos is amazing and we can't wait to go back in a couple years and take B with us!

  • Describe (Or add PIP) of your:

I'm at work, so I don't have pictures, but you can sorta see my dress, veil and hair in my siggy pic.

wedding dress:  Strapless white dress from David's Bridal.  The top was sort of a corset design with beading, somewhat full skirt (but not the giant ball gown style) with beaded detail around the bottom of the skirt

veil:  Very simple, 2 layer fingertip length with some pearls stitched onto it

shoes:  Pink beaded flip flops.  There was NO WAY I was wearing heels!

bouquet:  Pink and white roses.  I loved my bouquet, so beautiful!

hairdo :  Curled, with a little bit pulled back and I had a jeweled headband that my veil sort of tucked into.

bridesmaid dresses:  I was dead set on dresses the girls could actually wear again.  So I found black spaghetti strap dresses that hit a couple of inches above the knee.  And they were like $45.  I figured every girl can use a little black dress, especially for that price.  I was very proud of myself for finding those! :)

groomsmen tuxes/suits:  The groomsmen wore black tuxes with black vests and ties and white shirts.  Pretty standard but our colors were black and white.

colors:  Black and white with light pink accents

ceremony venue:  Knollwood Country Club - ceremony was on the golf course

    reception venue:  Same as ceremony

center pieces:  DH and I met in New York when we were students at Columbia so we had lots of little NY touches all over the place (tables were named after various places in New York, seating cards were subway tickets, we entered the reception to "New York, New York", etc) so our centerpieces were photo cubes with New York pictures.

wedding cake:  Amazing.  It was 4 tiers and each tier was different.  One was white cake with raspberry Bavarian filling, one was marble with chocolate Bavarian filling, one was marble with chocolate chip Bavarian filling and one was chocolate with white Bavarian filling.

What date were you married?  6/27/09

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding?  Medium to large - we had about 125 people.

Traditional or non-traditional?  I guess fairly traditional.. though we didn't have the ceremony in a church.. but that was pretty much the only non-traditional part.

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them?  The officiant was the pastor from my family church from when I was really young.  We were very close with her and her family and she flew to CA from Indiana to do the ceremony.  DH and I don't go to church so there really is not anyone else I would have wanted to perform the ceremony.

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her?  My best friend was my MOH.  We've known each other our entire lives - our moms met when we were like 6 weeks old in a mommy-and-me class.  I couldn't imagine having anyone else.

How many bridesmaids did you have?  5 including MOH

How were your emotions during the day?  Excited but relatively calm.  There were only 2 points where I was really anxious.  One was before DH and I did our "first glance".  I am so glad that we saw each other before the ceremony because it calmed me down so much to be with him.  The second was after we were done with the pictures and were waiting inside for guests to arrive so we could start the ceremony.  There were a bunch of non-bridal party guests in the waiting area with us (relatives, friends, etc) and I just started to get overwhelmed.  Luckily, the coordinator popped in and asked me if I was okay.. I just mentioned that there were a lot of people around and she kicked everyone except the bridal party out :)

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day?  No, surprisingly!

Was there any family drama?  No family drama, bridal party drama though!  One of my bridesmaids (SIL) caught the bouquet and another bridesmaid literally tackled her to the ground and wrestled it from her.  The other bridesmaid was totally hammered, wound up puking all over herself later in the evening, getting into a physical fight with her boyfriend, etc.  The rest of the girls and a few of our other guestswere so wonderful though - they took care of it and got her home without me even knowing what was happening!  I didn't hear about it until the brunch the next day.

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches?  Other than the crazy bridesmaid, the only glitches were really minor - they took a long time to serve the cake after we cut it and a bunch of guests left in that time.  Also our cake topper was too heavy for the cake and the coordinator thought I'd freak out so she didn't tell me, I had to just kinda stumble upon it.  But that was pretty much it.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding?  I loved the New York touches.. I feel like that made it very personal for DH and I.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?  Something old - necklace from my grandma.  Something new - dress.  Something borrowed - bracelet from my BFF/MOH which was the same bracelet she wore for her wedding a few years before.  Something blue - underwear.

Did you write your own vows?  Yes we did

What song did you walk down to?  Traditional - the bridal march

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance?  DH and my first dance was "A Wink and a Smile" by Harry Connick, Jr.  Father/daughter dance was the theme from The Godfather (don't ask..) and mother/son was "Mama" by BJ Thomas

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end?  We stayed until the very end.  They had to drag us off the dance floor!

Describe (Or add PIP) of your:

wedding dress: Reem Acra Gala - ball gown style with beaded bodice (bought a sample so even then it was hard to find a pic of online)

    veil: cathedral-length

shoes: pointy toes, kitten heels, white

    bouquet: white with  pale coral

hairdo : low knot (my hair is so baby fine I was late to the ceremony because the hairdresser took so long)

    bridesmaid dresses: below

groomsmen tuxes/suits: you can see one of them below - DH picked out morning suits

colors: started off with sage and white, wound up adding a lot of light pink and coral

This shot covers most of the above.

    image

    ceremony venue: home church

    reception venue: country club

center pieces: coordinated with bouquets, above, in "silver" vases

wedding cake: three tiers, separated (I wanted the old-school tiers, not the squat kind), hydrangeas between tiers, white cake with fruit filling

What date were you married? Sept 24, 2005

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding? medium

    Traditional or non-traditional? traditional

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them? it was the priest at the church I'd attended since birth

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her? sister, because she's my sister

How many bridesmaids did you have? 5 others

How were your emotions during the day? I was on an incredible high

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day? For just a second, during the vows, I was a little teary. I thought I'd be a mess, but there was too much adrenaline.

Was there any family drama? Not really.

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches? Besides me showing up 10 minutes late for the ceremony? (I had no idea at the time, I was being pulled in so many directions). Nothing too bad. The reception place did screw up my dessert and my receiving line, but the guests didn't know.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding? We had some really good Belgian beers special-ordered for the bar. (this was back in 2005, pre-trendy-beer era)

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue? I had some sort of handkerchief from my grandmother to put in my garter that covered most of that.

Did you write your own vows? Heck no.

What song did you walk down to? Canon in D I think?
What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance? First dance - La Vie en Rose. Dad - Daddy's Little Girl (my mom's fantasy, we just went with it). No mother-son dance.

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end?

    Basically till the end.

    Aww shucks! Thank you :).

Wow, that all sounds like a dream. What an amazing wedding!

My hubby and I had our honeymoon in Antigua... he swears one day he's bringing me back . But not sure if we're taking the little one with us. It may be strictly mommy and daddy time - we'll see ;). We loved the resort so much we want to go back to the same one. Totally not populated (like the popular Sandles on the other side of the island) we had our own private cottage right on the beach and it was all inclusive. Not a whole lot entertainment wise (no TV or shows) But for us, all we need is the beach and eachother. Sigh... Can't wait to go back. :)

OMG!!! How terrible! How did you handle that afterwards? Did you ever address it with that bridesmaid or did you leave it be?

Yeah, it was pretty awful, and effectively ruined our friendship.  Her boyfriend is a jerk to begin with, but after the way he behaved that night and the way she behaved (and made excuses for his behavior.. sorry, in my book no excuse is good enough for him punching her in the head.. guess my standards are just high like that), plus a few other factors, our friendship was pretty much done.  We met up for coffee once or twice after and she apologized, but we're not friends anymore.

And my SIL wound up getting engaged like 4 months later, so she should have caught the bouquet anyway!!!

  • We were married on Oct. 23, 2010 in our hometown in Mexico. It was a 600 ppl event!! Pretty insane but nice in that I didn't have to make seating charts ;)

Our wedding was pretty traditional--vows, music, etc It was done in Spanish which was important to me.

My husband's mother fainted (she's pretty dramatic) so that was the "hitch" but beyond that my wedding was the best day ever--really not so much the wedding but actually marrying my husband--I'm pretty obsessed with him :D

What date were you married?  December 18, 2010

Did you have a small/medium/large wedding? Small

Traditional or non-traditional?  A little of both.  Not so traditional ceremony.

Who was your officiant and why did you choose them?  We used a minister from the Unitarian church.  I grew up in the UU and knew that they would allow a ceremony fitting our beliefs.  No mention of religion or god and did not include the words "man and woman" or "husband and wife".

Who is your maid of honor, what made you choose her?  My best friend.

How many bridesmaids did you have? Just one.  I had a maid of honor and MH had a best woman.

How were your emotions during the day?  Good!  We had so much fun!

Did you or your DH cry at any point in the day?  I totally bawled walking down the aisle.  We have some good photographic evidence of me crying.  :)

Was there any family drama?  Not really.

Did the wedding ?go off without a hitch? or did you endure any glitches?  They were supposed to close the pool because it was near the ceremony and they didn't.  So even though the people watching could hear thanks to my uncle's fantastic sound system, MH and I couldn't hear well.

What was one unique thing you added to your wedding?  I wrote the ceremony.  And we had lots of outside pictures in the winter, so I had wedding boots.

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?  Didn't do that.

Did you write your own vows?  Yes, the whole ceremony, actually.  Minus the reading from The Alchemist that my aunt did.

What song did you walk down to?  The Beatles "I will".

What song played during your first dance with DH? Father, daughter dance? Mother, son dance?  Didn't do specific dances.  MH and I only danced to 1 song, though: The Roots "You Got Me".

Did you stay until the very end of reception or leave before the end?  We shut it down!

Lots of love to my BFPB, Squishy622 <3
