Holy swelling!!

Hello all, I'm new to this board, DS was born on Friday 2-10-12. He weighed 8 lbs 11oz, and he was 21.5 inches long. I got all the way to 10 cm dilated and 100% effaced but DS's shoulders got stuck. So, he ended up being delivered via c-section at 7:26 pm.

Yesterday, they told me I could get up and walk around, I heard that doing that immediately would help with healing, so I got up, and I think I over-did it. Now, tonight, the excessive swelling has moved up from just my feet almost into my thighs. They said this is normal.

My question is...what can I do to bring the swelling down faster? I am drinking more water than ever, and I elevate them when I can, but you know how hard that is with a newborn. Any suggestions?

Re: Holy swelling!!

  • Try some compression stockings.  That should help the swelling go down and prevent it from returning.

  • Time was the only thing that worked. Sorry not helpful... About a week and a half later, and I had ankles! They were skinnier than pre-pregnancy!

  • Watch your sodium intake as well. Not just what salt you add, but sodium already in food (especially prepackaged and frozen foods).

  • I second the compression stockings.
