I've been trying to have DH give DS a bottle and he just won't take it, instead he just screams bloody murder. I tried going straight to formula (maybe this is where I'm going wrong and I should be trying breast milk...I just hate pumping). Wondering if anyone has been in this boat and has some advice. DD never had a problem taking a bottle!! Oh and for what it's worth, I use Tommie yippee bottles.
Re: 6 weeks EBF and won't take a bottle help!
If he's EBF, he will likely not take to formula w/o a transition. What I did when I started introducing a bottle & formula was this: First bottles were full bm. Then once they had a few of those, then I did 75% bm to 25% formula. You (or DH) need to practice it with them every single day to get them acclimated- you can't just do it once & then quit. I would just slowly change the ratio until finally my babies would take a bm bottle, formula or a mix. I would say that I did this over a month or so.
For the record I also hated pumping & more importantly, my body never pumped effectively so even though I bf'd for a year, I could not keep up since I work PT & always had to supplement. It worked out great for us.
Can your partner give the bottle? A lot of time babies won't take a bottle from their mom f they are breastfeeding.
We started DS at 6 weeks using breastflow bottles. He screamed for a good 10 minutes before he finally gave up and took it. This lasted until last week (14 weeks). Now he takes it from DH no problem. Its was a long battle though. We went through this ever night for 8 weeks!
