WWYD - falling on the floor

H fell face first on to our hardwoods today from a dining room chair after snack. Crying I was right there and couldn't catch her fast enough.

She has a little scrape on her nose that bled but stopped almost immediately, and that seems to be all we can visibly see. I kept her up for a bit beyond when she'd normally go down for a nap so I could watch her. She's been walking fine, talking (babbling) ok, and DH played medic and shined a flashlight in her eyes to make sure her pupils reacted. Would you call the pedi anyway? I'm typically the type to freak out about nothing so I want a gut check before I'm *that* mom who calls the on-call line....

  • Probably not. Even though it sounded scary hearing and seeing her fall. She didnt lose consciousness so thats a good sign. I would only call if she starts vomiting or has a huge change in behavior.

  • I probably wouldn't. That smack sound is scary, but it's never permanently hurt him!

  • Ugh, yes that thump just makes your stomach drop! :(  I'm sure she has a hard head just like her mama but we're still keeping an eye on her.

  • DD has had a few minor falls like that. I didn't call the pedi but if it eases your mind call. I never see any harm in placing a phone call.

I wouldn't call anyone a worry wort for calling after their first big fall, but it sounds like she's fine.  Wood floors, while hard, are still softer than cement like in a garage.
