Child not sleeping....help please!

My DS has been sleeping though the night no problem for a long time now. All of a sudden the last week he wakes up around 11 or 12 and wants to stay up until 3am! We've been having a hard time getting him to sleep in general, naps and bedtime have been brutal with him just screaming in his crib sometimes up to 30 mins. Then sleeping for 10 and being wide awake again. Until recently he was napping once in the morning for about and 1.5 hours and once in the afternoon for 1.5 hours. Now we've lucky if we get one 1.5 hour nap. He goes to bed around 7:30!! Is he trying to give up one nap and just take an afternoon nap? Please help, I'm soo tired! TIA!

At 14 months DS was breaking down to one afternoon nap from 1-3 then bed at 8. It sounds like your DS is definitely ready for one afternoon nap.I would keep him up as long as possible during the day and get him to sleep for just one nap. My DS has been waking up around 1am and staying up until 230-3am to play for some reason too. I have just been letting him play and not going in there unless he cries. I'm not sure what it is with this playing in the middle of the night crap!

  • I would stick to one nap & once he is in bed for the night just leave him there. Some people think that is mean, but if DS wakes up, we just leave him in bed. They are smart & they catch on really fast that if they cry mom will come get me & stay up with me till 3am. That isn't even an option at our house.
  • Thanks, today we got one good nap in from about 11:30-2:15 and I'm trying to put him to bed a little earlier to see if that helps too! I am really hoping so because, yes this playing in the middle of the night thing is getting old! Plus I am so tired!! I wish he would just play in his crib but he wakes up and screams! Leaving him there I just get more tense since out room if feet away from him and I hear him loud and clear.....ahh the fun of sleep issues!
