Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

my almost 2 yr old needs newborn mittens...

DD scratched her forehead a couple weeks ago.  Now she picks at the scab during sleep times.  We can't get her to stop, it just won't heal.  We've tried band-aids and such, but she always picks them off when she is in her crib.  I don't know what to do.

DH wants to put mittens on her, but like that would last.  Anyone have any great ideas?

  • I have tried to put dd socks on her hands but she always gets them off.

Then I tried putting my socks on her hands and hicked them all the way up to her arm pits. She never have taken them off....

    You can try that.

BTW We do this becuase we want her to stop sucking her thumb at night.

  • Have you tried the 2nd skin bandaids (the larger square ones)?  They are thinner and stickier, they may be more difficult to remove.  Mittens/socks would never work on my DD, she would just pitch a fit and just try to take them off.

  • Bandaids on her fingers instead of the scabs?

  • I would honestly just leave it alone and put some antibacterial cream wile she's asleep/nap time couple of times a day. It should heal by itself. My DD had a scrape on her hand and she picked it and the more I tried for her not to do it the more she did it so I just applied a cream (neo something dont remember lol) and it went away.

  • Thanks ladies.  We've tried just leaving it alone, but it has been there for over two weeks and is just looking worse and worse.  Her sensitive skin got irritated from being under a band-aid so much, and it wasn't doing much good, so that won't really work anymore.

We might be trying a pair of my socks on her arms today...

And my original thought was of course duct tape on some mittens :)

  • we use the baby aquaphor. It is AMAZING & heals things quickly
