Big Baby?

We had our u/s today to measure the baby since I was measuring a few weeks ahead according to the tape measure.

Everything checked out okay but the baby is measuring a week early. He was 4 lbs, 2 oz. and I'm only 31 weeks! Yikes! Does this mean big baby??

I hope not, ours was 4 pounds 9 ounces at 31 weeks. I fear for my vagina.

The guestimates at weight have like a 20% accuracy range.

I have a good friend whose baby was "measured" at over 10lbs, so they scheduled her for a c/s 1 week before her EDD.  The baby ended up being I think 8lbs 14 oz.  Still a large baby, but considerably under the 10lbs they had guessed at.

The estamites they give you can be way off. Upto 2 pounds. so i wouldn't worry too much.

Could mean a big baby.  Although the u/s are often wrong on the estimates.  Also, babies often have spurts of growth & he could just be a bit ahead this week, but might even out.  Or your dating can be wrong.  I wouldn't worry about it too much!

It's just an estimate based on the measurements of the head and I forget what else.  My baby was estimated at 5lbs 2oz at my 32 week u/s, which is in the 75th percentile (so, yes, a big freaking baby).  DH and I both come from 9 lb+ baby families so I wasn't surprised, but am trying not to panic about giving birth to such a huge baby cause it could be off by up to 2 lbs.

Mine was measuring 4 lbs at 29.5 weeks.  Scans later in pregnancy aren't always accurate.  I am sure your baby will be within normal weight when born.

My due date was pushed up to 11/1 last week when I was just on the cusp of 38/39 wks.  My dr said she was over 9 lbs, almost 10 and I wouldn't be able to deliver naturally so he did a c-section on Friday.  Corinne was born at 7 lbs, 12 oz.
