Cloth Diapering

Washing Question

I plan on starting to CD within the next month or so. I just ordered a few different styles and brands of CD to see what I like the best and they're starting to arrive in the mail...yay! But I am just wondering, when you wash the pocket diapers, do you take the insert out and wash separately? Or just throw the whole thing in the wash and the inserts just work themselves out?

Also, right after you take the dirty diaper off LO, do you just toss it in the pail, or do you kinda roll it up like you do with a sposie?

TIA!

Re: Washing Question

  • Pockets work best if you take the insert out when you throw it in the pail. It all gets washed in the same load, though.

If you have snaps, just toss it in the pail (no rolling). If you have velcro, either hook it to the laundry tabs or do it up inside out.

  • Generally, you will have an easier time getting the whole diaper clean and preventing stink issues if you remove the insert before putting everything in the pail. Don't roll up the diapers, air flow helps keep stink down. Some diapers are designed to have the insert agitate out in the wash, but most don't.

  • Sounds good. Thanks ladies!
