Cloth Diapering

I'm sure this has been asked about Flips

but what do you like about them, compared to pockets or prefolds/fitteds and covers.  I've never used an AI2 really, so I just don't get the appeal (I'm sure it's there, I just don't personally get it.

  • My favorite thing about the Flips is that they're so small  and portable I can throw them in the diaper bag for an over night and not have to pack an extra bag just for diapers.

But yeah, they're kind of just an expensive prefold and cover.

My problem with the flips is my LO's ebf poop ALWAYS gets on the cover. So that kind of negates the reusable cover thing.

Maybe that'll get better when the poop gets more solid. I"m hoping anyway.

  • They're the only CDs we've used so I don't really have anything to compare them to, but they're a good daytime diaper.  I liked the idea of having disposable inserts (haven't actually used them yet).  I like the Stay Dry inserts better than regular prefolds, they seem more absorbent.

  • I love AI2s, but I'm kind of meh about Flips. They are easy to put together, (no stuffing which my DH hates), they are trimmer on the body than PFs, they take up less space in the diaper bag, and depending on the brand insert are stay dry and more absorbent than a PF. I really found the AI2 love when we moved out of the poop all day stage, and moved into the poop once a day stage.

IMO an AI2 is just an expensive way to do a prefold+cover!

The first flip I bought had a faulty snap that pulled through the fabric, I returned it and never got one again.

...but with the B1G1, flip covers are significantly cheaper than other covers ($7 each vs. $10-12 or more for other covers I've seen).

True, but the inserts are still $5 a piece, at least double what I've paid for a prefold.  Just saying.  :)

  • We have only used Flips (started CDing about a week ago). When I got into looking at CDs to buy, I thought about AIO diapers, but realized quickly that I would need to spend an INSANE amount of money to diaper my LO. DH and I both work full time and laundry isn't something we look forward to every other day. I was able to buy 12 covers and about 30 inserts for about $250. I also bought a pack of prefolds to go with it, and they also work great at night with a stay dry liner. It was a great decision for us. I didn't see the point of buying AIOs that had to be stuffed and/or replaced with every.single.change.

This is my issue with the Flips.  I put L in a Flip right after she poops so I know I won't have to deal with a messy cover.

This!  I like them a lot though.  I bought a day pack with 6 inserts and 2 covers.  I very rarely have both covers clean at the same time, and always have some inserts clean that I can't do much with.

Despite this...they are trim, fit nicely in the diaper bag, have nice stretchy tabs, and I like the stay dry insert, they have never leaked for me, and no EBF poo has ever escaped the cover, no folding or snappi'ing required.
