thirsties duo snap or aplix?

Just wondering what you prefer and why.  I want to order some thirsties duos size 1, but can't decide between snaps or aplix.  Any info is appreciated!  TIA!

Re: thirsties duo snap or aplix?

  • I have all aplix with my duos, and honestly some seem to hold better than others.  I don't know if they had a different manufacturer of velcro at some point, but two of them I don't bother reaching for, because they un-stick constantly!  I have been thinking about ordering some with snaps, because they are my favorite covers, but despite only using for a couple months the aplix has not held up well on half of the ones I have.

  • i LOOOVED aplix for the first year, and then they started going downhill fast. so i had them all converted to snaps around 15 months and i'm glad i did.

i think in the beginning aplix are better and definitely easier for other people to use (like daycare)... but once your LO can pull their diapers off... you might hate them :)

  • Because this is very much a personal preference issue - you should try both. What I did was purchase snaps in gender neutral prints and aplix in girlie prints. This way the snaps would still be around and usable for a second child but I could enjoy the ease of aplix in fun girlie prints.

I have one Thirsties AIO that I got used that is like that...maybe it is your laundry routine?  Do you line dry the covers and use the laundry tabs?

I totally admit I'm bad about pulling them out before they hit the dryer... I usually try to but miss at least 1 cover.  I do dry everything on low heat though, and always use the laundry tabs, but I suppose it could be just from hitting the dryer too many times.  I just find it odd that it's only affected 2 of my covers, when I'm sure they ALL have made it into the dryer at least a couple times!  Embarrassed

Those are the ones I would sell if I could get anything for them, but it doesn't sound like there's much of a market for used covers.

I bought my used Thirsties Duos in snaps, 3 for $25 ppd. So there is a market among FTM who don't know better. Wink

  • I definitely bought used covers in snaps too :-) For almost every other brand, I prefer snaps, but for Thirsties I prefer Aplix. The fit is just SO much better that I don't care about all the other issues with Aplix.

I prefer aplix.  I think you get a better fit with aplix than snaps since you aren't locked into a pre-set place to close the diaper.

This. DD was a peanut and the Thirsties XS covers were still big. If we had snaps, we would have had to wait to use them, whereas with aplix we can get a custom fit.
