Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Breast Pump Question....thanks in advance ladies.

Hello ladies,

I post on multiple boards but I feel that I know you ladies the best. You are very nice and thought I would ask my question here first.

So I am doing well bf my ds. I am so excited that its going so well, as I don't want to use formula. I am sure most of you ladies know that my dd got that darn samenella (sp?) from the Similac when it was recalled.

So now that I know he is doing great with bf (even though he does appear to be tongue tied - which the pedi said to leave alone - that is another issue). I was thinking about getting a pump. I do have 2 manual ones (the one I brought while pg with dd and the new one I got from the hospital with ds), the medela Harmony. I have not tried it yet for I have not had a chance to wash it.

Anyway, I am a SAHM so I plan on EBF but wanted something in case I wanted to get out of the house and have my parents or dh feed him.

I have a 200 gc to target and 125 check that I got for gifts. I also need to purchase a video monitor with the money. So I thought about getting the medela swing single electric pump, but not sure. Its so expensive and not to fair off from the double pumps ($80). I am not sure if I should save the money and get the single one...

What do you ladies think? This is my last baby so I will only be using it for about 11 months.

  • this is what I used and liked:

But I would probably just used what I had because pumps are so expensive.

  • I bought a Medela Freestyle because I plan to use it for more than one kiddo.  I am really happy with it, but don't know if I'd fork out the $$ for something I used so little when I was at home the first year.  Now that I'm back to work and using it 3 times a day, it's definitely worth it.

Sorry if this doesn't help much.

  • I had two different electrics, one I kept at the office, my Medela Pump in Style, which was a double pump and was great if I had to be away from DD for an extended period since it allowed me to pump half as long.  It was expensive but totally worth it as a working mom.  Not sure if you are going back to work PT or FT but if so well worth the investment.

I also had a First Years Mii Single electric pump for home and for the weekends.  I was using a manual pump but it started giving me problems with me wrists so I got this one and it worked really well too.

If you are just looking to occasionally pump your second side to put away a stash etc a single electric works fine but if you are going to be gone much (vacations, work trips or working PT or FT) then the double electric is well worth the extra money to save you time.

  • I have the Medela Freestyle. I love it, but it is expensive. I will say that I strongly recommend getting a double pump. The single pumps take double the time and when you have a new baby, time is valuable.

  • I had the Ameda Purely Yours, which I got secondhand and I just replaced the tubing and bottles. It was great! I found it on ebay for 20 bucks and pumped 5 days a week from September-November (and probably every 2-3 days before that). Even if it quits on me the first time I pump with my next kid, it has still paid for itself.

That said, I didn't get it until my daughter was 6 months old, and before that used the Medela Harmony manual pump every 2-3 days. I honestly didn't find the electric any faster if I was only doing one side- that Medela Harmony is great!

I guess technically now I should be SecondBabyMomma Lilypie Third Birthday tickers Lilypie First Birthday tickers
