Thank you all for your sweet words, thoughts, and prayers! C's surgery was quick and went very well this morning. The surgeon drained a lot of fluid from both ears and inserted the tubes. C had a really tough time coming out of the anesthesia and screamed for about 20-30 minutes. But, once he did, he was as happy as a clam! He played happily all morning, ate a good lunch, and went down easily for his nap. We've already noticed that he seems to be making more sounds and listening to them (like rattling things around, banging stuff, etc.) and cried when I ripped the sticker off of his new high chair tray today because he could hear it! Before, he didn't even flinch at loud noises.
Pitterpatter, in case you read this, the only thing I wish I had done was brought a bottle! C only gets a bottle last thing at night so logically I brought his sippy instead. Since he was so groggy, he had more trouble with the sippy. I guess that's why the nurse asked me 3 times if I had a bottle. Oh well, we made it. Hope Nate's goes just as well!
Re: C's surgery update!
Aw, so glad he's happy and can HEAR!
Hugs to you brave mamas who have to watch your babies be put under anesthesia. I think that would be sooo hard!
Awesome!
Yes, bring a bottle or sippy for sure! We brought a few snacks too in case he was going to be picky about what he wanted.

That's so great that you can aleady tell the difference in his hearing.

I'm so glad it went well! Hopefully, no more antibiotics for a loooong time for C!
I'm anxious.
Nate is still on the boob - so thankfully we'll have that issue covered.
How long do they have you wait to feed solids?
Thanks everyone! He actually had a really good day too so we're grateful for that. He went to bed pretty easily too so hopefully he'll sleep through the night tonight. (It's been a looong time!) He was not easy watching him be put under but everyone there was really nice and knew exactly what they were doing so I felt pretty comfortable.
Pitterpatter, he tolerated the juice they gave him at the surgery center well so his sheet said he could have his regular diet. He had some soy milk and a few puffs on the way home. He was more awake when he got home so ate a banana. He ate a normal lunch and dinner though I definitely gave him stuff he really likes (soy yogurt, noodles, etc.) rather than pushing the veggies today.
Did you get to stay in the room for the procedure or while they gave him the gas? I just figured they would separate us (which makes me sad.)
We were at a surgery center that is a separate building but still on the campus of the main children's hospital. Still though, it looked just like a regular hospital inside. We waited in a large waiting room, were then moved to a triage room that had just a curtain and not a door to keep my kiddo contained. LOL - that did NOT work! He roamed the halls and checked out all of the other kids that were waiting. When it was time to go, they had me put on a gown and hair covering and let me carry Christian back to the operating room. It looked pretty much like a regular OR and they had me lie him on the bed and asked me to hold on to his hands and talk to him. They had told me the gas smells like stinky feet and it would upset him so I just joked with C about the stinky feet and he calmed down. Within 60 seconds of lying him on the table, he was fast asleep. They let me give him a kiss and showed me back to the waiting room. We waited 10 minutes and then they took us to recovery where a nursing was really trying hard to hold on to him! He hated waking up from the anesthesia and just screamed for a while. I sat with him while he drank his sippy of juice and they let us leave quickly after speaking with the surgeon again, probably because the other kids were starting to cry and he was the loudest!
They didn't make us change him into a gown or anything so he just wore a long-sleeve t and sweatpants and his Skidders. Most kids there were in footed sleepers though a few were in jeans. He also got to bring a small blanket or toy with him and he cuddled it the whole time so hopefully Nate can do the same. We were told he can't get his ears wet for 48 hours so we're holding off on a bath until Sunday. He also has eardrops for the next 5 days but those were easy. I think that is everything but let me know if you have any other questions!
I came back to check and I'm glad to hear it went so well. We noticed a lot more babble. I also noticed that she was a whole lot less wobbly on her feet and stopped falling so much. Now she's confident and runs... and trips and falls.
My DD used to also grab her head and bang in into things. The floor, a door, the wall.. whatever. Since the surgery she hasn't done it. Maybe she was in pain and didn't know how to "get it out"?
Pitterpatter129- They took our daughter into a separate OR room and we went to the waiting for about as long as it would take for me to go down a hallway, use the restroom and come back to sit. We opt'd to give our DD a oral "relaxant" for lack of better words. It really didn't effect her but the kid in the room next to us was laughing up a storm. The extra meds helped her be calm when they took her from us. She actually waved good bye at they walked down the hallway.
Hmmm, I hope they let me go with him. He's had a great deal of separation anxiety and fear of strangers lately. I'd hate for him to be scared. Ours is at a major hospital though, and based on the csection I had there, I doubt they are sensitive to scared babies.
