The post about texting made me think, have you ever drank and drove? I do not think texting & drinking are the same, but sorta. They could very easily have similar devistating results.
(Drinking WHILE driving also counts. I know people who "drive up north" in the sticks and drink while driving and "it's OK because they aren't drunk yet"
)
Re: Have you ever drank and drove?
Oh yeah. We did all.the.time senior year of high school and summers home from college. So stupid - we rationalized it with "well, we're going 7 turns from M's house to B's, so it's all good".
Thank goodness nobody ever got in an accident or hurt someone, but looking back on it scares the bejeebus out of me.
Unable to even.

I voted never but it really should have been ss. I have never driven after even one drink, but in high school I had a friend that was our designated drunk driver "because she was soooo good at it". We were f-ing idiots, thank god we never hurt anyone.
I thankfully never got a DUI or anything, but 2 of my closest friends did. I knew that could easily have been me, and probably should've been.
Then a kid 2 years my junior got killed in while he was drinking and driving right at the top of my street (sorta a twisty turn street) Eye Opener... Sad
Then my brother who was the DD for his friends, was rear ended by a drunk driver (who happened to be a lawyer... Who happened to not even have a license and had 8 DUI's?!!?!! Why he wasn't in jail is beyond me.)
Anyway, seeing my brother and all his back surgery's later... (12 total) Sucks. Thank God he was't paralized or killed. Although he is in major pain everyday. Poor guy.
Yes, my friends and I did in college. Pretty much weekly. It makes me ill just thinking about how stupid we were. I am SO thankful that nothing ever happened.
We don't drink and drive at all anymore. That means not even driving after a beer. My DH had a DUI in college, and hasn't done it since. He sometimes gets weird looks from people, but if I am not there to drive him, then he doesn't drink. If he does have a drink (he won't have more than one), then he will only do so if he knows he will be there for several hours (ex, watching a football game at a friends, etc). The consequences aren't worth it to either of us.
If one glass of wine with dinner and driving 2-3 hours later counts, then yes. Any other context then no.
I have lost 3 people to DDing. One of my closest childhood friends was killed walking across the street. He and his friends went to a University bar just off campus, they walked specifically so there were no worries. A guy from the same bar was driving his pick up through campus to get home faster and because no "real" cops were on campus property. He hit Mike doing 95 (that's kilometers here not miles).
My mom was busted for DDing a month after she and my dad split up (I was 17 at the time). She almost drove onto the highway via the off ramp. When R.I.D.E stopped her she sat on the road bc she couldn't walk. I will never truly truly forgive her for that. She still denies she was drunk, or at least did the last time it came up in convo a few years back.
It sucks, its the most selfish thing a person can do.
I really haven't.
Although, I have got drunk at night, woke up and drove the next day and then realized I was still a little drunk. oops.
1 out of every 7 people leaving a bar on an average Fri/Sat night Drives while intoxicated
The average DWI violator drives while intoxicated 83 times a year
I can't go into detail too much why I know this - but my job involves DWI and crash reconstruction in law enforcement. You wouldn't want to know what I've seen. If anyone did, they would never have another drink and drive.
There is 1 thing I do want to say. I see a lot of people say "I only had 2 drinks" or "I would only have 1 drink and drive". The problem is not only the number of drinks. It is what "1 drink" really is vs. what you get at a bar/wedding/restaurant. You could think you had 1 drink but in reality, it had the amount of alcohol of 3 drinks. So...
1 drink equals:
one 1.25 oz shot OR 4 oz glass of wine OR 12 oz beer (standard beer - not a high alcohol beer).
If your glass contains more than that amount of alcohol, you may believe it is one drink, but it is not.
Women get higher BACs on the same amount of alcohol because we have less water in our bodies - so it is more potent to us than it would be to a man. Time is the only thing to lessen intoxication - not coffee, food, showers, etc. That is why the pp said she was pulled over the next morning- enough time had not passed. The average person loses .015-.018 per hour. That is not a lot - less than one drink per hour.
Ok- off my soap box. Sorry if it's preachy- this is what I do all day and I am very passionate about saving lives any way I can.
