Asking godparents before baby is born?

Is it odd to ask the godparents before baby is born?  I did it before but it was two family members.  This time we will be asking another family member and a close family friend that I have known since she was born.  Should we wait until after?  We know the sex of the baby and have been open about his name so he already has an identity that everyone relates to.  It's not like we are saying "will you be the godmother to baby x?"

I think that is fine.  I think we asked my brother and SIL before DS was born.

I asked my best friend to be the God Mother when I was 5 weeks pregnant  lol  I guess I was a little ahead of the curve.  My husband is going to ask his best friend soon.  He hasn't felt like the "time was right."  Men...

We asked this baby's godparents when we found out she was a girl @ 16 weeks. I think it's really just a matter of personal preference.

My godson will be born HOPEFULLY this weekend! I couldnt' be more excited...but obviously, they asked me before he was born.  They did it in a really cute way too...for Christmas, they got me a picture frame that said "Godchildren are life's greatest blessings!" and put a sono pic in it.  I immediately new what it meant and started crying when I saw it.  I think it makes it extra special!

I think its fine! I asked mine early I don't plan on changing them unless they piss me off LOL (I would never... its one of my sisters, and DH brother)
