Stupid prepping question

When prepping new cotton prefolds, do you use soap during those first washes?

Yes. You need to strip the natural oils, and that takes soap.

I used Tide Ultra.  Stronger detergent to get the soap out faster.  Worked well for me.  the last 2 washes I used cloth diaper safe detergent with two extra rinses to get the tide out.

What if you boil prep?  Will the one soapy wash following boiling get all the oils out?

Yes, or at least that's what I did.  I boiled for half an hour and washed once with soap.
