How long do you boil water for formula?

I've been boiling water for my LO's bottles for 5 minutes, but I just read that you should only boil it 1-2 mins otherwise you can concentrate the minerals, also that you can't use hot water to boil only cold. Arg, I feel like I keep messing things up!

I put water in a bowl and microwave for a minute then set the bottle in that for a couple minutes so it's somewhere around room temp. I use filtered water from the frig.

The part about using cold water is correct. As far as how long to boil..you boil any items for sterilization for 5 mins...regular water until you see it bubble.

I had no idea people boiled water for formula. I just buy the nursery water. It is only $1/ gallon at walmart.

I just used tap water and pedi was fine with that.

I have never boiled it or used the nursery water and my DS has never had a problem. Unless there is an issue with your local water source you shouldn't need to.

I've gotten mixed advice on whether or not to boil it. When I first called the nurse told me to boil the water, when I met with my doc I told my doctor that's what I was doing and she said that was fine or I could just use bottled water like Dasani
