Cloth Diapering

diaper service

my grandmother just called to tell me she is paying for one month of diaper service. I am so excited because we planned on using sposies for the newborn stage and so I didn't buy any NB CDs. is there anything I should know about newborn CDing or diaper services? I'm having my baby this weekend (induction) and am even more excited now that we can CD from the beginning. -

Re: diaper service

  • That is really sweet of her! I had a diaper service many years ago with my first baby. I would say, call and find out how much they sell their covers for. You may not have much choice in brand and it may not be the best price. Odds are they will sell them to you, but not provide them as part of the service. You may be better off getting the covers from somewhere else. Depending on how big your newborn is, your regular diapers may not fit well until 6 weeks or so. Either you'll need to do a 2nd month or just know that you'll have leaks for a few weeks. Also, if you use your own covers make extra sure they don't go into the bag with the prefolds. You'll never see them again. I lost a few that way.

  • Yay! My grandma gave me the exact same thing for my shower last Saturday and we're THRILLED! I'm so, sooo pumped not to have to worry about it for the first little while :)

  • Very nice! I loved our service. I didn't have to do anything! Just toss all of the dirty diapers in the bag and put them on the porch once a week. No rinsing or anything :)

You will need covers though. The local service rents them, but you have to launder yourself. I just bought Thirsties covers because it would be cheaper.
