LINNEA?? I'm not sure if that's how it's really spelled, but regardless, I so want to pronounce it LYN-KNEEE-A and it reminds me of "linear". It isn't pleasing to the eye or ear for me. I've heard of at least 4 people name their daughter this in the past 4 months. What gives??

Ha! This made me chuckle.
I think of this too! I know how it's supposed to be pronounced (my friend has to correct me constantly- it's her daughter's name, too) but every time I look at it I want to put a "KNEE" in the middle. I've never heard the name before, and now it seems to be EVERY WHERE. I think it's going to be the new 'it' name.
Me too. No thanks!

I think it's a beautiful name, although I am half-Swedish and that affects my name-preference palette. It is a flower that is in turn named for the famed Swedish scientist Carl Linneaus (who designed the whole taxonomical system). People use the name both after the flower and the botanist. I love that other countries honor their scientists and artists the way that we in the USA honor our Presidents and statesmen. It is a little weird that you know four baby Linneas, though, unless you know a whole bunch of Swedes.
This is the only way I've heard the name pronounced, but I've only heard it on one gal in her mid-20s. I didn't realize it was growing in popularity.
I live and went to college in a huge Scandinavian area. I know quite a few Linneas. It's not popular around here but I'd consider it more classic/common.
I never knew it was "weird" or "different" I guess...lol.
I think it's pretty.

*This! I see nothing appealing about it
my thoughts exactly. I would never want to name a child after an ugly pg symptom.
I'd say it Lynn-ay-ah. It's ok... I kind of hear linear and am not crazy about the combination of sounds in it.
It's probably a regional thing in terms of popularity. I haven't heard it much around where I live.
I also know a few Linnea's and don't think it's a strange name at all. I think it's pretty, even if not exactly my style.
I've only known it to be pronounced lyn-NAY-uh.

I haven't heard of anyone using this name before, but I thought this immediately.
It's a Swedish name, and fairly popular over there. It is probably more common in the Midwest than in the other parts of the US.
Both my mother and maternal grandmother's middle name is Linnea. There is an accent over the "e", and it is pronounced Lynn-ay-uh.

I had a friend name her daughter that back in November (I believe she may be of Swedish decent) and I had NEVER heard the name before. Then a co worker named her daughter that, a friend's sister name her daughter that, and I heard it at the playground the other day. I was like- Have I missed something here?? I'm thinking that a couple of them may have chosen it as an alternate to Lynn.
