Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

daytime nap?

Hi, I usually lurk but I need some advice. Does your LO nap during the day? If so, how long? DS won't nap until its 3 pm & sleeps for 2 hrs. I can't get him to bed at 8 or 8:30 pm. He just isn't tired enough. Should I cut his nap short? Wdyt?

Re: daytime nap?

  • DS naps in the afternoon right after lunch. He goes down around 1/1:30 and sleeps anywhere between 30 mins and 2 1/2 hours. Lately it's been 1 1/2 hours. What time does your DS wake up in the morning?

  • What time does he wake up for the day? He should be taking a nap before 3.
  • My LO dropped his nap at about 18 months.  He sleeps from 6:15ish in the evening to between 6 and 7 am.  It stinks, but before he dropped it, he was fighting going to sleep for both nap and bed for about an hour each.

What time does he wake up in the morning?  I suppose maybe you could try waking him up after 45 minutes or an hour...  Really though, if he's going down at 3 for a nap, it's going to be hard to get him to go to bed.

  • He wakes up at 8:30 am every day.

  • Like PP said, when does he wake up?  How many hours is he sleeping at night?  DD sleeps from about 8:30pm to 6:30am.  Then she naps from 1 to 3:30.

Not sure what the best suggestion would be.  I would try for a nap around 1:30 or 2, and make sure he is up no later than 4 and see what happens.

Since he's waking up that late, I can see him not being tired until 3:00.  Have you thought about trying to transition him to waking up earlier?

That might be better than trying to cut his nap short.

  • He used to go to sleep at 1 after lunch. its lately about a wk or so that he is staying up longer.  I tried to keep him up for the day since he wasn't falling asleep but he passed out at 4 pm. So that didn't work.

Thanks, I will try this and see how it goes. The reason I haven't tried because he is still not STTN so I am so sleep deprived that I am taking advantage of him sleeping in late in the mornings.

  • DD goes down between 12 and 1 and sleeps 3-4 hours. She doesn't go to bed until 8.

  • I don't think 8:30 is that late to sleep in. My younger son naps from 12:30-2:30, and gets up around 7-8  Are you getting out of the house, and really getting him to burn off energy in the morning? That might help him nap earlier.

  • during weekdays, she naps at anytime between 1130-1PM and does so for 2-3 hours. On weekends, when she gets to sleep till around 930-10 in the morning, she goes down to nap around 2-3 pm, and can nap until 7 in the evening which, could be frustrating because she wont sleep until 11 in the evening sometimes even 1130.

Although my mom suggests that i wake her up, i do not do that because i feel that maybe she needs to rest or something. but that's just me.

i love you, my little mooncake mahal kita

  • I would do your best to try to move up that nap time.  I know when my LO sleeps past 4:30 bedtime will take forever.

  • We are still on the 2 nap route. Charlotte wakes up between 5:30-6 and naps at 9 and 2
  • DS goes to bed between 7 and 7:30 pm.  He wakes up between 7 and 8(although, he is still sleeping right now-I'm shocked).

He does wake up multiple times a nights, but only whines for a moment or two, and goes back to sleep(unless he is sick).

He takes one nap. It falls between 11 and 2, lasts between 1 and 2 hours. He just is not a napper.
