Re: Anyone still bf?

  • Huh? It's totally normal to still BF your 16 month old child.

  • Totally normal, we plan to BF past the age of 2.  He still nurses about 6 times a day, even with being at daycare.

  • We still BF on demand. DD is very demanding at times. I also get some flack from my family regarding BFing a child over 12 months but I ignore it.

I agree with bolded 100%.  My DD is 19 mo and still nursing and will probably continue past two.

  • DS suddenly stopped BF at 19 months.  That's about when he started cutting his canines.  I used the "opportunity" to just "go with it" and that was it.

---> and I COMPLETELY agree that it's up to you and no one else!

I would've continued with it had he not self-weaned.

  • BREASTFEEDING PAST ONE IS PERFECTLY NORMAL. WE'RE STILL BF AND I DON'T SEE AN END IN SIGHT.

Breastfeeding past the age of one is perfectly acceptable. As long as you're still enjoying the breastfeeding relationship, there is no reason to stop.

  • We're still going... I've been trying to cut out nursing sessions for a couple months now, so we're down to 2-3 times a day.  We'll probably go for a few more months like this.

  • I still breastfeed my 18 month old. He's at daycare during the week and we only nurse twice per day (first thing in AM and then prior to bed). I think I could probably work toward weaning him completely and he'd adjust, but to be honest, it is comforting to both of us and because I work full time, it is a bonding thing. I'm not sure how much longer we'll go -- we're about to move homes, which may set the weaning process back a bit. I've found that tons of people do it, but few people openly talk about it. We'll see how it goes. I felt so much pressure to wean him at 12 months and I'm glad I followed my gut and kept on going. I don't think he was ready and I wasn't ready, either.
