Trimming finger nails.

DD's are razor sharp, I've tried to trim them, she hates it and I'm chicken sh!t I'm going to cut her too short. She hates filing them. I'm at a loss of how to do it properly and those little thing scratch the beejeepers out of me each time I feed her. Tell me... How do you do it?

  • Wait until LO is in a good deep sleep and then go for it.

  • I wait till DD is sleeping and use a Glass Nail File. I have a small one (about 4inches long) the glass is rough enough to file down the nail, but smooth enough that it doesn't scratch LO's skin. I swear this is the ONLY way I have been able to manage her crazy razor nails.

  • Honestly? I bite them and then tear them off. Works great! The nails are so soft right now that it works great.

  • This is going to sound crazy, but dd doesn't seem to care- she'll let me hold her hands and I just clip in between wiggles. I use regular grown-up size clippers, as I find them easier to control than the itty bitty ones. I only do one or two at a time though as needed- I don't think either of us has the patience to sit there and do all ten!

These!  I wait until lo is calm or asleep while I'm holding him.  The built in led light really makes it so you can cut his nails any not worry about getting him!  They are impossible to find in stores through, do you'd have to order online.

  • I always bit DD #1's nails too.  My MIL suggested it.  It was the easiest way to do it.  I'll do the same with DD #2 as well.

  • I use NUK scissors with rounded edges and cut his nails while he's asleep. Works great!

  • We wait until our 1-month old is asleep before using the Safety 1st nail clippers to cut his nails. I also gently file them afterward, just to make sure that there are no jagged edges that can hurt his delicate skin. One trick I recently learned is to put him to sleep in my infant carrier, then cut his nails. It's a lot easier for me to maneuver his tiny hands around so that I can access his nails. :-)
