Billy Blanket . . . ?

Our little girl was equipped with a billy blanket today after her blood test revealed billirubin levels of 15 . . . apparently normal is 11 or under.

Just wondering if anyone else had their little ones on one and how long it took before he/she no longer needed it.

It needs to be attached 24 hours a day . . . only being taken off when there is a diaper change. Little Amelia doesn't seem to be bothered by it . . . It affects me waaaaay more than her. I just don't like seeing her attached to a machine, even if it is just a light.

  • My baby girl was on the blanket for 4 days, all day long. It helped greatly, but I had to leave her in the hospital after being discharged which was rough.

  • I was actually able to take my DS off of his today. He has been on it for 5 days, but I had a really hard time leaving him on it the whole time I was supposed to, and his levels were higher.  He's down to a 9 now though.

Good luck, it's tough leaving them on there all day long. But when you can look in her eyes and see that they're not yellow anymore, it's worth it. :)

  • DS was on it for 3 days for 24 hours a day. His first biliruben test came back at 21.6. They are a pain in the butt however they do work and DS was able to stay at home with us.
  • My DD had to go in the hospital because her levels were 25.9 but before they knew how high they were they were talking to us about the blanket at home and they said usually about a week for it.

  • DS was on it for a week.  It did help though and was so much nicer to have them able to be at home and not at the hospital!!

  • Thanks!! It makes me feel better knowing that Miss Amelia isn't the only one and that it's not for too long.

It is WAAAY better to have her at home then have her stuck in the hospital.

    Thanks ladies!!
