I bought some borax

I went to three stores looking for calgon and am too impatient for Amazon. So how much borax should I use for a good sized load? 6 prefolds, liners, 2 fitteds, 4 inserts and 2 covers.

I'd try 2 tbsp, plus the usual detergent.

What does it say on the box? It really depends on how hard your water is and how much water is in the washer. So, to really know, fill the washer without diapers, add whatever the box says, close the washer and let it agitate a minute. Now feel the water - it should feel slightly slimy (like hotel water often does) - that's "softness". You don't want it super slimy, of course, because then your problems go in the other direction! Good luck.

The box only had directions about general cleaning.  I tried the 2 tbsp but I will check out your suggestion next time.  We'll see how it worked!
