XP from Feb 2012: Extra placental lobe?

I had an appointment with my OB today and he said that my placenta has an extra lobe on it. He said its nothing to worry about but that I need to make sure that the doctors/nurses know about it when I deliver because they need to make sure that both parts of the placenta are fully removed. I'm not worried about it, because my doc certainly wasn't, but just wondering if anyone else has this or has ever heard of it. Kind of weird!

  • I had that with DD.  Strange, I had never heard of it before either.  I was also given the same advice about making sure they got everything after birth.

  • I have one as well. My Dr is not concerned as long as they make sure it all comes out. I am not too concerned at this point but I know I will be once I am close to delivery. I hemorhagged with one of my previous pregnancies and so this possiblity scares me a little. I do trust my Dr though and have full confidence that he will make sure everything is fine.

  • I've got one one. Did not with the first, dr's don't seem to think it is a big deal. Just have to get some extra u/s to make sure the cord is OK. And now she is breech, so they are rechecking in a few weeks to see if she has flipped.

  • I have one too! They discovered it at my 22w echo. I actually want to see my placenta later to see what's up with it.
