Once C started using the straw sippy cup, he could use all straws....and tries to. If I have a cup from a fast food place, for instance, he thinks it's his and goes for it.
"I wanted you more than you'll ever know, so I sent love to follow wherever you go."
We have the opposite! C hates actually sippy cup straws...she just likes to chew on them because they're soft and rubbery but when I have something tasty in a cup w/ a straw she's all over it! I also wish she'd stop pulling out the straws & playing with them...that can get messy!
The way I got DS to use a straw was by using those squeeze pouches of puree food. He learned to suck on them and then he started sucking on the straw cups.

I think I've only offered him a drink through a regular straw once & he was able to drink from it fine. Except it was one of those stupid eco-friendly cardboard straws (seriously worst invention ever) & after he'd get a sip, he started chewing it like a mad man.
DS learned how to use a regular straw before the straw sippy cup. If I have a cup w/a straw, he would much rather drink from that then his own cup. He also likes to play with the straw and chew on it.

C started using straw cups at 5.5-6 months because she refused to take a sippy. We would have people come up to us at restaurant and say "OMG I have never in my life seen such a little baby use a straw!" I'm not sure why she always preferred it, but she just did. She finally leared to use a sippy around 11 months, but doesn't really like them. We have to remind her that she needs to tip back or else nothing comes out... lol. We have a couple straw cups that she can carry around the house, but otherwise we just use regular cups and bendy straws. I know, my baby is seriously a weirdo sometimes! :P
Yes, K knows what to do with a regular straw. I'm surprised he's able to get water out of them! 9 times out of 10 he chokes/coughs because too much comes out at once.

This! He is obsessed with our straw cups now.. anytime he sees one, he lunges for it.
DS has used a real straw a few times when we've been out to eat. The first time, he didn't know what to do with it (we don't have straw sippies), but the second attempt, he got the hang of it. I really need to let him practice more.
