3rd Trimester

Inducing on Wed!...Repost from Feb 12 Moms

Hey everyone!  Well DD has decided to stay put, or so it looks like, until they induce me Wed morn at 5 am.  I will be 39 weeks that day.  I do have some concerns about inducing and of course the horror stories of pitocin...  Some stories may help!  I am hoping that they may just break my water and labor will progress from there without meds...  As of last Wed I was 5 cm and 60% effaced and had my membranes stripped, lost my mucus plug the next day.  Cramping everyday, but nothing timeable or unbearable!  Anyone have any inducing experiences?  Would love to hear some pleasant stories! ...or unpleasant if you must! :)

  • I was induced with my first and just to warn you, contractions are stronger and harder with pitocin.  But an epidural worked well.  I ended up having to have a c-section for other reasons.  One thing I wish I would have asked for and you may talk to your doctor about is doing Cervadall the night before.  It is a cream they put on your cervix the night before going in to be induced.  I didn't really know about it until after my induction, and I wish now I would have known and asked about it.  I don't know if they use it only if the cervix isn't dilated at all or not, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.  Good luck!

  • I had Cervadil, which really did nothing, besides some cramping. But then they broke my water and started Pitocin. I got an epidural pretty early on (3 cm?), got a good night's sleep and woke up at 5:30 ready to push. My sweetie was born 45 min. later. I had a wonderful induction and wish you the same!

  • Curious about Cervadil. Does it burn?? I have a fear of burning down there. lol

Ask about having your membranes swept. THat may be an option for you.

  • I had pitocin with my DS.  My water was leaking and I was having contractions, but they weren't doing much.  The pitocin helped to move me along.  I also heard horror stories about pitocin, and I was so scared.  It was not fun, but it was not the nightmare I envisioned it would be.  It made my contractions right on top of each other and painful, but in my head I thought it was going to be much worse.  Good luck!

  • I replied to the induction post further up, but I just wanted to say that you could also ask about cytotec.  It's basically oral cervadil.  That's what I was given.  I had three doses, I think they have to six hours apart or something.  It was great and really helped me to progress before having to start the pitocin (got cytotec at noon on Sat., started pit at 5am on Sun. and Micah was born at noon on Sun.).
  • I am also going in on Wed to be induced at 5:30 am with pitocin. Good Luck : )
