Napping in car seat

DS is in this phase where the only place he will nap is in his car seat. For some reason everywhere else he will only sleep for 20 minutes or so and then wake up. In the car seat he will sleep 2+ hours. This morning when he wouldn't go back to bed at 6:30 I put him in the car seat and he fell right asleep and slept until 10. I know this isn't ideal, but I always put him Snuza monitor on him. The nurse at the pediatrician's office said that this should be fine. Does anyone else have any insight as to whether this is ok? For the record, this is the only way my parents could get me to nap for the first five months too.

  • I would say that's fine... Just have to try the transition to sleep in his bed when it comes time!

  • Obviously it's not the best thing.  My pediatrician said it's really best that they only sleep on their backs.  The car seat or any positioner like a swing, etc still scrunches them up a bit, which constricts their breathing.  However, i know of a lot of people who had their baby sleep in the car seat for months because of reflux and they were fine.  So, I stopped doing it after my pedi said that to me, but you have to decide what you feel comfortable with.

  • You have to do what you safely need to do in order to get some sleep...  I think with my niece/nephew the carseat was the only way that my bro/SIL got any amount of sleep/silence from both being colicy babies...  At some point it becomes about what's also better for LO, parents who have gotten some sleep and are not as stressed or parents pushed to their threshold from lack of sleep and constant screaming...
